Remove the negative battery cable from its post and connect an ammeter red probe to the negative battery post and the black probe to the negative battery cable. Now start pulling fuses until the voltage on the meter returns to normal. (anything above a half of a volt is too high) The fuse you pulled to get this result is the affected circuit. Now you have to probe it from its B+ source to the load
to find the short. Check all connectors for rust and the line for opens or shorting to ground. Repair accordingly.

My Vauxhall Mireva 1.7 year 2011 the battery keeps draining over night suspect the body control module

Hello. It's possible your vehicle's BCM (Body Control Module) was 'shorting'; 'draining' the battery overnight. You stated a fuse was removed and battery voltage increased. That may be your answer; the BCM is at fault. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

My1992 Silhouette want hold charge over night .what could the problem be?

Yes, something is draining the battery.
Perhaps you could disconnect the battery each evening as soon as you arrive home, and reconnect it in the morning to go to wherever.
If you work, you may wish to disconnect it when you get to work, etc.
Some common causes are :
1)a short in the alternator,
2) a short in the radio,
3) a short in the computer,
4) a short anywhere else, especially under the hood of the car.
God bless your efforts.

Drove my car the other night. No problems. Now it won't start. No life at all. Did not leave anything on that would drain battery.

How old is the battery? Batteries can develop an internal short and drain themselves. A voltmeter check of a good battery should be around 13.5 volts.

Battery drain

They most common reason for a battery drain is somewhere in the car a light is on or coming on at night. Next would be a shorted battery cell due to a sulfated cell plate and a defective diode in the alternator.

240z battery drain

Have you confirmed by going out to the car at night that none of the interior lights or lighted visor lights truck or hood lights are staying on? That is by far the most common cause of a battery drain. Other less common cause is a defective alternator rectifier diode Disconnect the battery overnight as well to confirm you don't have a shorted battery cell, that to will run the battery down, it is called an internal drain. Also make sure the top of the battery is clean of any acid.

New starter, alt, and battery but battery drains over night boost car and runs all day next day no start. manual transmission so i roll down hill and it starts but not when battery is totally dead

there are not a lot of computers that could be causing the drain, so baring any aftermarket accessories you should start searching for an indirect short to power

prop hood and leave the doors open... this is important because you do not want to wake the computers once you start your test

next, unplug the negative battery cable and insert a DVOM in series

drain should be less than 80mA after 30-90 minutes

if drain is higher, start pulling fuses until the drain is isolated
