hi c-dog. i can't find a reset feature in the menu the only reset button i can find is the reset button on picture adjust section. i tried unpluging the wall outlet but still the problem exist, actually i can only view the menus while im turning off the lights and trying to sit very close on the tv, that way i can see a little shadows of the words, basically a black pop-up onscreen on display still showing when pressing any feature button on the remote.

  • grayanne Feb 11, 2008

    sorry im not a technician.

by the way, on the black pop-up onscreen display whenever i press the feature buttons, when i stand close to the tv and turn off the lights i could see some shadowing of the words but very very minimal visibility and its so hard to read

i was thinking too that its a convergence problem, because when im turning on the tv there's a green shadowing on the left side, but when you start watching programs you wont see that green shadows.

can you just tell me how to fix that convergence problem, i really dont know how, or do i need a qualified technician to do that, or i can do it too?

In your customer menu there is a convergence adjustment feature. just follow the instructions on how to do it. It's pretty simple. But if that doesn't do it, then you may have some components shorted or open in the convergence circuit. If so, then you will need a qualified tech to repair it.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think the problem lies in your Convergence OSD PWB. I had to disconnect mine in the attempt to troubleshoot a problem with my TV and the same thing occurred. I would check your connection from your Convergence PWB to your Convergence OSD PWB; especially if you recently recently changed your IC's to fix a color convergence problem. If that checks out ok I would look for possible problems on the Convergence OSD PWB. Good luck!

Check for closed captioning. make sure it's set to off.

Try and see if there is some sort of a reset feature in the menu. Also try to unplug the set from the wall outlet for a few minutes then plug it back in. That resets the microprocessor from being stuck in a loop of some kind.

When the internal temperature gets high then the photo coupler efficiency decreases. This would sometimes result in the menu display freezing up not being able to see any of the PTV functions. Are you a technician?

I have a 2008 LG 42LC5DC. The tuner is currently set to receive a cable box feed but I'm using antennae only and want to scan over the air channels. How can I get to the setup menu?

First set the input to TV if your cable box feed didn't come in on the RF cable. Press the Input button on the side of the TV (the second button from the bottom above the Power button). Alternatively press the Input TV button on the top left of the original remote. (You'll have to search through the inputs if you have a universal remote without the feature.) Next press the Menu button on the TV or on the remote, if you have the original remote/universal remote with the matching feature. On the original remote, the Menu button is above the OK button. The Menu button is the third button from the bottom (above the Input and Power buttons). Press the Menu button and then use the Up/Down arrows to navigate to Setup. (If you use the TV buttons, the Ch Up/Down buttons are Up/Down. The volume increase and decrease buttons are Left and Right.) Press the Right arrow key and then Use the Up/Down buttons to select EZ Scan. Press the Right arrow key again. Press the Right arrow key or Enter (on the remote) to launch the scan. You can find the screen shots of the Menu options and the button locations in the manual. The manual is available here: http://www.lg.com/us/commercial/documents/32lg505h-owner-manual.pdf .

I hope this helps.

I have an old magnavox tv with a smart lock and need a default code

Press the "Menu" button on the remote to reveal the on screen menu, then press the cursor up or down until the option labeled "Features" is highlighted. Once the features menu is highlighted, press the cursor up or down buttons until the phrase ''Smartlock'' is highlighted. Next, press the cursor right button until it shows the phrase ''access code;'' on the access code screen, press 0, 7, 1 and 1 again. WE HAVE A BLACK BOX IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR TV AND CAN'T GET IT OFF WITH THE REMOTE

Black boxes in the middle of the screen are text boxes. Text is a part of the closed captioning feature either on your television or your cable/set top box. You would press the closed captioning button on the remote repeatedly until it displays cc off or something similar. Captioning might also be active on your cable box/set top box. There is normally a hidden menu on the cable box and that is where closed captioning is. You have to turn the cable box off. Yes I did say turn the cable box off. Then press the menu button on it and then the hidden menu will pop up. Then navigate to closed captioning and choose disable.
