Question about Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer

1 Answer

Envelope printing when printing envelopes on a Brother HL-2040 printer. I set the return address to print 2cm from the left but it reverts to auto and cuts off half the printing. How do I change the default to solve this. Also I use 114x225 envelopes and feed lengthwise. The envelope comes out badly creased on the trailing edge. Is there any fix for this?

I had been able to print envelopes just fine from MS Word, using the D-10 size. Now it's only printing the bottom half of the document at the top of the page.

You need to insert the envelope in the manual feed area and open the exit door at the back this allows the envelope to go straight through the printer hopefully limiting creasing. Check the envelope settings in windows make sure that you are using the correct size and feed selection.

Thanks J

If it's not wrinkling regular plain paper, then you need to tell the printer you're printing envelopes. Envelopes are thicker than letter paper. When you tell it to print, make sure you click on "Properties" and set the job for "Envelopes". Also, make sure the guides are set to fit the envelopes snugly.

Print envelopes brother 2040

Ummm... Just go to the user manual. It will show you how to do this. It's really not hard. Manually feed the envelope into the printer (that thing on the front that you can play with and the sides get closer, and further apart at the same time) You'll need to have word set to print on an envelope. Again not hard just a little bit of know how. Google "word envelope print" and you will find instructions on how to set up word.

Bends envelopes in printing

Most laser printers have an "S" paper path. They cannot help bending paper. I would suggest you print lables instead of envelopes if you send several letters. If you only send 1, hand address the envelope. Not elegant ut it works.

Lost an envelope in the printer

At first I couldn't get the inker cartridge out, to look for the envelope but with more trying, I was able to remove it and I saw the envelope, which I could easily pull out.

Printing envelopes

Open a MS Word Document, select 'Tools' then 'Letters and mailings' then 'Envelopes and labels...'

Envelopes and Lables dialogue box opens - ensure you are on the 'envelopes' tab

Then type your recipient address in the larger white box

for standard letter envelope (DL 220m x 110mm) - Insert envelope into Brother HL-2030 manual feed, with print side up, gummed flaps down and to the left side (bring gray plastic guides in close to secure).

Then select print.

I have found that during the feed, one end of the envelope gets a little bit crumpled but overall it's still a little bit more professional looking than my handwriting.

Printing envelopes on HL4040CN

I just bought a HL-4040CN and all my envelopes wrinkled, regardless of the size, paper thickness or software settings (thin envelope, thick envelope, etc.). Here's how I solved the problem....Open the rear panel and you'll notice a small gray lever on each side, which is probably pointing to "A" on the scale (A, B, Envelope). Move both levers to "Envelope" and close the back panel. The troubleshooting manual says the levers should be moved back to "A" after printing the envelopes, but I left them in the Envelope position and can't see any difference when printing regular or test pages or envelopes, except the envelopes are no longer wrinkled. I called Brother and asked them if there was any reason why the levers can't stay in the Envelope position, and they told me they could be left there if it wasn't negatively affecting other documents. Now, I have a great printer that prints everything without any problems. Hope this helps.
