Re: Lens is stuck
The E18 error is fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.
Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 50% of lens errors, but they're worth a try:
- If you need clarification, ask it in the comment box above.
- Better answers use proper spelling and grammar.
- Provide details, support with references or personal experience.

The lens doesn't get tilted unless it's been abused. That means it was
dropped, sat on or stepped on. The warranty doesn't cover anything like
that. It would cost money to be fixed. Tell your parents what
happened, and tell them you are sorry. Maybe you are too young yet to
have a camera. They are delicate things, and you have to treat them
very gently. I have had cameras since I was 11 years old, and I have
never dropped one or ruined one in any way. Sorry this happened...
If the lens is stuck out then you will find it is usually one of a few reasons.
1. Check the batteries. (obvious I know). 2. The camera has been dropped or knocked. 3. The camera has grit or dirt in the lens mechanism.
Providing the batteries are ok then 2 and 3 usually mean a professional repair. The lenses tend not to be something that the average home user can remove and take apart. Sometimes worth giving the camera a slap in your hand or maybe using an air duster to blow down the side of the lens to dislodge anything that might be stopping the lens. The cost of repair also might be more than the camera value so you will need to find a good repair shop near you and get a quote.
This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Most of the time, if you can get a sharp knife to SLIGHTLY dig into the part of the tube that is bent, you can CAREFULLY wedge the tube back out. (With the camera OFF) then when you turn it back on, the camera will reset the lens and all will be ok. I've done this with three cameras so far.... ALL involving 13-year-olds dropping them!!! What is it with 13? Unfortunately, MY 13 year-old, smacked the 2.5 inch screen, and the crystal broke... Other than a $50 part on e-bay, I'm having trouble finding a REASONABLE priced replacemement...
Dont know if this will help anyone. I had a lens error for ages. In my long lasting devotion to google serk I found that many equall contenders found that a strike with a soft book in different directiions solved the problem. I ended up beating the camera from all angles with the palm of my hand. But hey! it worked. 4 months later im looking for the cure to system error 2. If you can help wi that one.
