You cannot load maps to the unit using the Trip and Waypoint Manager software. That software only does what it's called - it transfers routes and waypoints. To install maps onto your GPS, you will need Mapsource, which normally comes with the maps. Once it's installed on your PC, you hook up your GPS with a mini-USB cable, choose which maps you want transferred to the unit, and then the Mapsource software will knit the map segments together and transfer them over to the unit. Hope this helps.
You do not give very much information to go on.
Perhaps you have downloaded some data such as routing or some other details from your computer via "MapSource". If so AND you have a mini SD card in the GPS, you have overwritten the SD card with the data from MapSource ...the map data on the SD card is now gone!
But the MapSource Data remains.
If you have copied the original data on the SD card, just copy and paste to re-place it.
If NOT you will need to contact Garmin to get a new SD data card.
What you have to do to prevent this in the future is to temporarily remove the Data Card from the Garmin GPS, then download the MapSource data from your computer. Then the MapSource Data goes to the GPS on-board memory.
You will need to load the MapSource software on your PC then load the maps into MapSource. After the maps are loaded and unlocked you can plug your GPS into your PC with the USB cable and load the maps.
Step 1: Get "garmin_keygen_v1.5.exe" 2008 by JetMouse Step 2: Follow the bottom instructions...
11) Go to "Utilities-Get Unit ID" and Find Device with your GPS plugged in USB. Write down Unit ID. 12) Run Garmin Unlock Utility, Enter that Unit ID at the top. 13) Select under "Select Map Product" 14) Enter the type of map you're using or if you have the Map ID enter in a custom map, use the Generate button to get 25char code. 15) In MapSource go to "Utilities-Manage Map Products" 16) Go to "Unlock Regions" Tab, and hit "Add...", enter 25char code, comment optional 17) Now on the main MapSource screen, type 'm' to enable map tool. 18) You should see a large white rectangle, with rectangle outlines (these represent NA maps) 19) Click and drag to select them all, you can click "Map Set Name" if wanted. 20) Click the "Send to Device" button. Wait an hour. Enjoy.
You have the USB cable but what software? Have you got the MapSource CD? If not, there's a free and legal workaround. Download the free Garmin Training Center (from Garmin site), open it to check it works, close it then download the Mapsource update file, also from Garmin site. You'll now have MapSource and can uninstall Training Center. You'll need maps though - depending where you are there's some free maps otherwise get a Garmin map to make it easier to plan trips.
If the CD is from Garmin, it will already have Mapsource on it, and it will install when it is installing your maps onto PC. If you ever install any other maps, the CD will check to see if Mapsource is already installed and will skip this procedure.
Hi check out this wed site, it will help. HT maps for the Nuvi are NOT for PC use. The map load onto the GPS as you install Mapsouce. Reinstall Mapsouce and take option 3 on the startup page of the program.
Install Mapsource program from the CD and also install the maps. Start Mapsource program and use the Map tool to select the states you want to install. Now hookup your Garmin to the computer and Transfer the maps to the Garmin
