DU-42PY10X Has sound but no picture.

My TV has sound but no picture. I had a similar problem last year, when it had vertical bars. It was under warranty so it was fixed, although I dont know what was replaced. Now with my warranty expired, Im left with the problem in my hands. Can any one help? I am mechanically inclined, I just need the right direction. Thanks.

I also have the same problem : no image (black), no sound on my 42PY10X LG plasma TV. When i switch the power on, the screen is black and there are very thin and discontinued white horizontal lines. CET, i don't see how to test Vs and Va voltages. Where are the testing points ? on the Power Supply board, or on the ysus and zsus ? I attach a picture of the power supply card. In case you know where the testing points are, could you please indicate their positions ?
The info inside the TV shows : Vs = 198V and Va = 60V. Are those values realistic ? I want to make sure. Many thanks for your help

When a plasma has no picture I have found that 9 times out of 10 the ysus bd or the zsus bd has failed and sometimes both have failed at the same time. When you pull the back of the unit, you will find the the large pcb on the left as you look at the back is the ysus bd. and the bd. on the right side of unit is the zsus (it is about 1/2 size of the ysus bd. Check the fuses on both bds. and if one is open see if replacing will help. If it blows again the bd. that the fuse is on is most likely defective. The VS and VA voltages are listed on a tag on the inside of the plasma panel and those voltages should be checked. If either of those voltages is very low or missing, first disconnect the plug from the power supply to the ysus bd and check the voltages again. If the voltage comes up then the ysus is defective. If the v does not come up replace that plug and pull the plug from the power supply to the zsus bd and check again. If the v then comes up the zsus is most likely the cause. Remember to disconnect the AC to the unit b4 each step. Of course there are other possibilities and I alway reccomend that if your are not proficient with handling meters and AC and DC voltages then please contact a qualified service tech.

LG 42 inch plasma model # RU42PZ61

I've been fixing a DU-42PY10X with the same problem. I checked around online and with a friend in the business and both suggested that it is indeed the "Buffer Logic Right" (for the left side). I took the unit apart very carefully and checked the serial number sticker on the board for a number like 6871QRH043A. 6871QRH043A is the part number I need, but it is probably different for you.

The part looks like this (http://www.discount-merchant.com/We-provide-factory-original-parts-worldwide-p/1036658-lg.htm) and is found buried under several boards as well as under one of the main structural support bars. I had to take out the two system boards and their enclosing box, the power switch board, the two support bars and a giant heat sink spanning from the left to the right side at the bottom. Under there I found both of the vertical buffer logic boards (left and right sides). There are nine ribbons that have a flip-up snap to hold them in place to each logic board. And don't forget the 15 to 20 other cables that needed to be removed to get down there. And watch out for the three high-voltage boards (that have very large electronics and heat sinks) -- They will still hold an electric charge.

So, you could replace the board yourself if you are very organized and cautious. There are a lot of screws and a lot of wires and a lot of stuff to avoid. You may be able to get the part number by calling LG's parts department. I got my part for about $90. If you don't have the affinity to take apart consumer electronics already, then I'd advise having someone more experienced do it. I've taken stuff apart for fun for years, so it takes me about two hours to fix it. The $500 labor is steep, but it is that high because of the high voltage concerns and to pay for any mistakes they make.

If you feel you are a capable tinkerer, I'd order the part through them or through LG's parts department and fix it yourself very very carefully.

Vertical lines all over...have pic

I had the same problem on my DU-42px12xc. Red, green , and blue lines vertically on the right side of the screen. I found a loose solder connection under the inputs board on a resistor. After re-soldering, everything was crystal. I'm happy I grabbed this tv before my work threw it out. Be very careful when soldering SMT components. Use proper equipment. I had to troubleshoot while the tv was on, so I was extremely careful not to short anything out.

I pulled the inputs board out to gain access to the "Y-axis" pins.

My picture looks like cartoon characters from new commercials

I had recently noticed the same thing happening with mine. Then the left half of the screen turned black and has various red, green, and blue vertical lines. The right half of the screen shows has the picture just fine. It's exactly right down the middle of the screen.
