Important note about maps: Due to our high volume of sales, every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by will come with the most recent map version. The current map provides data through April 1, 2007. If you purchased a Garmin GPS before April 1, 2007, you can purchase a map update on SD card. We will notify customers who purchase from via e-mail whenever new map updates become available.

    hers knows issues with it

Our overall impressions are that the StreetPilot 2610 is a new generation of low cost Automobile Navigation Systems. While it is not the least expensive of the truly automatic self contained address-to-address car navigation systems (SP-III, Quest, iQue 3600, G-60C, "GO" and some other PDA based systems are less expensive), we consider the SP-2610 to be the best full featured performer in the low price class of Car Navigators. At about US$800, (Check Latest Prices Here.) we think the SP-2610 is a great product for the money. In fact, we think the GUI is the easiest to use of any car navigator we have tested with the exception of the Magellan Roadmate which has fewer features. With the SP-2610 and its optional 2GigaByte CF Map Memory Card, I believe we can eliminate having to use paper maps for automobile road navigation (in the covered areas of the world). The Street Prices for the SP2620 with 2.2Gbyte Hard Drive and USA+Canada maps already installed is in the range of $1100 to $1200.

What DON'T we like about the StreetPilot 2610? 1) As with other Garmin Car Navigators, entering street names can be a problem. You might know a street name as AC Lewis Road, Ac Lewis Road, or A C Lewis Road or Baywater or Bay Water or Baewater and the spelling may/may not match the local convention. The user MUST spell it like the Garmin/NavTech database or the address cannot be found. This can lead to not being able to find a street that you know is there. NavTech tells us that their convention is to run initials together and use caps, so you might try that if you get stumped with a street name with initials. 2) POIs are often in "groups". There may be several groups of restaurants by the same name (different franchises I am guessing) and you do not readily know in which group the closest store can be found. 3) POI groups are incomplete (though they are VERY helpful). I find that some post offices and libraries in my local area are not included, but MOST are. 4) On occasion, we see the router generate "funny routes" such as taking a busy numbered federal highway instead of a nearby freeway. Overall, the SP-2610 performs as well or better than other Car Navigators we have used. NavTech tells me that these problems WILL be looked at if users will go to and fill out the report form. Lets ALL do it! 5) During Installation, you MUST install the MapSource software BEFORE you plug in your GPS or things will not go smoothly. It is also necessary to handle each disk more than once during installation.

Which GPS do I like to use now when I go on automobile trips? The StreetPilot 26xx. Would I take it hiking or boating? No.

To get personal Addresses and POI's onto your Garmin unit you will have to use a software called "POI Loader" here is a link to the software.

Hope this helps!

Hi It is more important to know how to add POIs. Here is a simple tip:

1. Create some directory especially for download. I use the following one: C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM

2. Download and save all CSV and BMP files to that directory. You may create any subdirectory and use it to save POIs for that category.
I use: C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM\Restaurants, C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM\Petrol etc.

3. Garmin's POI Loader will find all files in these subfolders and will use them to create a category.
Garmin POI Loader will search through the directory C:\Garmin_POI_GPS_DATA_TEAM and will create/transfer all corresponding POIs to your connected GPS.

4. You can remove any POI file simply by removing it from your POI folder. and re-running the POI Loader software. This POI update procedure takes about 1-2 minutes.

In summary, keep your POI files updated on your PC and run POI Loader to update your GPS or SD card via any SD card reader.

Unable to send and open data sent to my Garmin GPS from Anquet map. I planned a route on my Anquet map software with wayponits etc but was uable to send it to my gps. I have enquired with Anquet and they...

Currently, the POI Loader only supports CSV files because that is the format that most data vendors support. POI Loader may support additional formats in the future.

MapSource only supports .mps, .gdb and .gpx files. You can save files as .txt files if you wish to use this data in other applications.

Sadly Garmin does not produce any software which can convert .txt files.

However, this maybe possible with GPS Utility. Please note GPS Utility is not Garmin software and Garmin does not support this. Click on the following link for more information:

Having problems with poi loader cant find csv file to be able to download files.unit is a garmin c31o

Here's how you get custom POI files on a Nuvi:

1. Download and install Garmin's POI Loader.

2. Create a folder on your computer, suggest Desktop, with a name like "Custom POIs". The name and location doesn't matter but you have to remember what it's called and where it is.

3. Go online and look for 3rd party POI files. Places like have dozens if not hundreds of files.

4. Select ones you want on your gps to download. Make sure you are getting the files in the correct format. Newer Nuvis use *.csv files. Not sure if the C310 does. Download your POI files into the folder you created.

5. Plug your USB cable into the GPS and your computer. Wait until the driver finishes loading.

6. Run POI Loader and follow the instructions until you get to a screen asking for location of POI files. Point it towards the folder you created. Next tell it to load the POI files. After a few seconds it should give you a message "XXXX data points successfully loaded".

You should now be able to go to POI/Extras screen and see "Custom POI Files". Open that up and your custom POIs should be there.
