Palm Treo 680 does not power up

The red light comes on when plugged into charge. But will not power up at all. Even when plugged into the wall. I can't get this thing to turn on.

    My Treo 680 did the exact same thing today. It will not turn on even though the green light shows the battery is fully charged when plugged in.

    I don't even get a green light. It only stays RED.

    Tech Support told me to return the unit. It's faulty and that's all there is to it. I hope I did not buy a piece of crap.

    same problem happening to me. soft reset worked a few days ago but not today. my Treo 680 won't respond to any keys at all. tried removing SD card but didn't help. tried recalibrating battery by removing battery, plugging in, and putting battery back in - no difference.

  • BilliamG Mar 02, 2008

    Same as above. I let mine discharge overnight, then connected to charger, red light showed, but the unit would not turn back on. I tried all of the tricks, like taking out the battery and putting back in, taking out the SIM card and tried turning on with and without the SIM card.

    When I put the battery back in, in every situation, the Palm logo comes on and the line moves across the bottom to the end, but then the screen goes black and no turn-on follows.

    red light on treo 680 and it wont turn on

  • hih20 Jul 01, 2008

    Pressing the power button with erratic results. Sometimes the unit will turn on - sometimes it won't. Taking the battery out doesn't work any more. Sometimes putting it on the cradle and pressing the power button will work - but not always. Very frustrating - this issue coupled with others I've had - grrr. I've really about had it with this device.

    My Palm Treo 680 won't turn on, even when it's plugged in. All I get is the red light. I had already put it in for repair once. When I got it back, it worked for a while, but then now it's doing that again.

Same problem here.
Haven't solved yet, I'm posting this info anyway - maybe someone take it one step futher.

  1. Remove the battery;
  2. Insert the battery, while holding simultaneously the "Volume Up" and the lower button on the Palm left side;
  3. You'll get a red led. Just leave it that way until the led goes off;
  4. Remove and insert the battery. The Palm you not boot (battery completely discharged)
  5. Plug the Palm into the charger. Wait some moments and the device will boot (at least mine did).
Now, the problem is that after I still don't get a green light after wating some hours. If I try to do a hard reset the Palm does not boot - same situation as it started.
The battery initially shows 0% charge, and in some minutes jump to 99%! This indicates that this is were the problem is, as mentioned in other posts.

Ive had my phone for almost 2 months now. My old treo 680 didnt even turn on... this was a replacement. Now it seems i'm having the same problem again where the phone froze and now it wont even turn on. Its really starting to piss me off now and if anyone can give any advice besides "taking out the battery" or "hard and soft resets" it would be great.

    as for my phone... this will probably not work for others but at the point you may be at with your phone its worth it to try it all... i removed the battery and sim card and left the phone (with no battery) plugged in over night. In the morning i put in only the battery to see if it started and it did. As it was moving unbelievably slow, i then preformed a hard reset, then re-inserted my sim and the phone has been working like normal for the remainder of the day.

At least for me, a new battery appears to have done the trick. So far, no problems about a week into it. Thanks.

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

How do i deactivate airplane mode for palm treo 680

This can be easily remedied by holding the red button on the right. The phone will say "Hello" at the bottom of the screen and find a signal.
This is also the procedure activating "airplane mode."

Use wifi in palm treo 680

WiFi is not supported in the 680. I understand that the Centro and the new 800W have it. (Me, I'll wait for the 800p before I trade in my trusty 680.)

Treo 680 charging light flashes red when disconnected from charger

Have you activated phone yet? When phone is activated and in service it flashes green. It's hard to believe it would flash green without a SIM card, as there is no service...unless AT&T is providing emergency service only and you're getting a flashing green which means you're in range of their towers.

My palm treo 680 turns itself off repeatedly

hi dear

BACK UP your Treo 650 software and data BEFORE doing the following.

1. RESET the Treo 650 back to default set by holding power buttom following by reset the treo.

2. There is a way to reset the voltage regulator in the Treo ; believe is by holding the RESET for > 3 seconds. Believe need to take out the battery in out during this process. Can't recalled the correct steps. This could could reset the Treo's power regulator.

3. TRY reinstall your palm software with minimun software or 3rd parties one, this software could be running in the back ground which drain the battery.

Try above steps might help.

Mine also got the same problem last two weeks, my treo could felt there is kind warm sensation if it took out from my waist pouch after leaving it for sometime on the table. BTW, the battery could felt quite warm also.

If yours also behave the same which I believed the Treo got some kind of contact problem which draw more power then usually does.

Now, mine got no more warm sensetion after carry out above steps. It gets better as Compared to last two weeks ago BUT not that good as compared previously when it can last 3~4 days after a full charge.

Good luck
