I am having the same problem, unit work just pasted it 1 year warranty, the converegence issue has cropped up. I have replaced the center fuse twice so far.

    Mr. Bob,

I replaced the fusible link F231 and the TV worked for a couple days. Whatever caused it to blow in the first place, must have caused it to blow again. (Both times the TV was relatively cool - only on for about 1/2 hour as opposed to running all day.) Do you know where the convergence IC's are located for this TV? There are only small ICs on the heatsinks (I have seen pictures of 2 X 3" IC's on heatsinks in other TVs (STK-180s). Nothing I can find has a number starting with STK on them. There are 3 boards further back (towards the front of the TV), that I did not pull out. Are they located there?

Another thing we thought about was just jumping the fuse. It is only a 400ma so we think relatively harmless?? What is the worse that can happen if we bypass the fuse?

    Your advice is apprecaited.

    Thanks!

Ok,

I had the same problem as babylooch. I replaced fusible link FL231 (center fuse by high voltage transformer) and my problem was solved for about two hours. Then it blew again. So I'm gonna try to swoop out the IC's. Does anyone know where they are located in this TV. I have a RCA R52WM24. I don't see anything with STKxxx.

    Alright,

So I resoldered the points on the flyback transformer and put a new FL231 in and wouldn't you know. MY PROBLEM IS FIXED! Its been fixed for almost 3 weeks now. Thanks to Willtab for his input. So basically its a very easy fix:

Find the flyback. Its the big black transformer to the left (bottom lefthand corner of board) of fuse FL231. Resolder the points on that flyback and then put fuse FL231 back in and your problem should be taken care of.

When the convergence goes out - and yours sounds like it's completely gone - usually only the conv ICs need to be replaced. If you start "boarding it", you may lose the eeprom that contains all the memory for your particular set.

Get all the "old" boards and parts back in your possession, put them back into your set, then get the ICs and try just replacing them.

You may need to replace fuses as well. Sometimes the resistors also burn up, but that would be painfully obvious, if it had already happened.

The picture shows all 3 colors seperate from each

Sounds like a problem in your convergence circuit. This is the circuit responsible for making sure all 3 colors align perfectly so that you don't see what you are seeing now. If you have tried adjusting it and that did not work then you will need to have the convergence circuit repaired.

Colors seperating and Screen bowing

The convergence circuit is not working. There are bad solder connections on the sweep board and a small fuse is open. this is not easily done yourself unless you have a technical background but an RCA tech can fix this easily.

Good Day;

I would suspect the fuse near the IHVT, conv. power board or conv board itself. check voltages going to the convergence board. Good Luck, big IRISH.

Convergence

No menu option is a clue to your problem. No menu option for convergence is due to the Micro not seeing a active convergence module in the unit. This is a post check, when the unit is turned on, and on some units, only done at AC power up.

With that in mind, you need to check your (PW=power) pcb for the conv module. This is easy to find, but on most RCA is located on the plastic panel that is in front of the CRTs. On this model, you should see PW conv PCB on left and Conv PCB on right. Top left corner is a plug with two wires, BP611, (i think) which should have like 300v DC. If you dont have the B+ go to the Primary power supply. More then likely you will have it.

If your 300v is there, order the PW conv module. NOTE: most of these modules are rebuild only and cost about 70.00 to rebuild at PTS. Other wise, you can trouble shoot at board level.

ONLY WORK ON THIS IS YOU HAVE CAN SAFELY USE A METER, AND HAVE SOME ELECTRONICAL SKILLS. NOT FOR BEGGINERS!

the 271860 is a convergence power supply IC. Exactly what was your problem, and could you please include the chassis number from your set, as rca has to be diagnosed by chassis number.

Two boards govern this circuit . 1) convergence power supply board # 271860 2) convergence amplifer # 271861 . In most cases amp board is your problem . You might want to check the amp board for loose connections on it .Most of the times its the cable sockets on the borad have loose pins . This the board that has the metal heat sinks in a row of about nine of them on the board . Good luck
