My JVC GR-D33U is not recording video or sound. It seems normal, the screen still works, it says it is recording, but when I go to play it back, nothing happens. Also, when I try to transfer to the computer, nothing shows up, so I'm pretty sure that nothing is recording. I reset the camera and bought a new tape to try, but it still isn't working. It was recording fine at Christmas, but the next time I went to use it, which was only a couple of days later, it wouldn't record. Please help!

OK, that means you can see clear picture in playback of old recorded tapes and camcorder just wont give you live view to record any more. If its true then it is known problem/ failure of ccd imager in your JVC GR-D33 camcorder. JVC will repair it free of cost, click JVC CCD Imager Advisory for details. Thanks.
The tape cleaning won't help this problem, it is alignment on tape guide and back tension, like you mentioned it had been service before after they fixed the lens cap issue, usually they connected to computer to adjusted may be they missed. So I sugges you to bring it back to them if it is still under warranty or direct to JVC and take the old tape, ask them to try it after they align this unit, DO NOT use tape cleaning again because you can see picture on the new recorded
that mean the video head is good
I hope that give you some ideas

being a fact that JVC camcorders are very trouble prone, it would probably be a better ideal & cheaper to buy a new camcorder.
for your next camcorder purchase, i would stay away from anything made by JVC.
Apparently this same problem exists on many different models. I have a JVC grd72u. I called JVC @ 800-252-5722. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" prompt from the automated attendent. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of the problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call ASAP and get your name in the computer. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call you with the estimate to repair.
