Question about JVC DR-MX1S DVD Recorder/VCR

2 Answers

Unable to do anything!!!

We have the JVC DR-MX1S and have been dubbing programmes onto DVD. It has dubbed the programmes, but we cannot delete the programmes and also we can no longer record anything onto the hard drive or dub across to DVD. The programme that we were dubbing cannot be deleted or played. We have tried switching off at the mains and leaving it (up to 48 hours), but this does not resolve the problems. Any ideas please?????

Many thanks, we do all the suggestions, we have been using the machine for the past 2 years without any problems. These problems have only been happening for 5 days. The DVD part is OK, its just the hard drive that we are having the problems with.

    Hi

The DVD's play OK, so do the videos. The main problem is using the hard drive, we are unable to watch anything that has been previously recorded, we are unable to record anything new, and cannot dub anything across to the DVD. When trying to watch anything, it says loading for about 1 minute then switches off.

Did you finaleze the DVD after dubbing?
After dubbing material from hard disk to DVD you need to "finalize" the DVD disk to make it playable. You would think that this action would be accessible from the "Dubbing" menu. It's not. Each time, you have to go to the "Setup" menu, which is normally used for the initial setup of the video tuners and default values of record/playback preferences.

Are you deleting the files correctly ?
For example, If you choose the "Navigation" button on the remote to view a list of what you have recorded on HD and you see that several of them are no longer of interest and can be deleted, you have to back out step by step from the "Navigation" set of menus, then press the "Edit" button to first choose an action (delete) then get the same list of programs to choose the ones to delete

Have you used this machine in the past successfully?

Cheers

I can't see any info on formatting the hard drive within the unit in your manual, although it does tell us how to format dvd's I guess there is not a option under same menu when in HDD Setup. ie page 87 on pdf

There is a reset procedure on page 89 but I hold little hope that would solve your issue, which as Otacon here has stated seems most likely to be caused by corrupt data on the hard drive or a malfunction of the hard disc itself.

You will need to take to a dealer, service mode operations on this machine require a jig (service remote) to perform certain tasks within it.

Even if I did put you into service mode, there you would be stuck cause without the jig you cant exit service mode nor perform changes to system

    Sorry

It appears that there is no way to reformat. I have looked at both the user manual and service manual. The only options that I can see is to get the unit serviced or you can attempt to disassemble the unit to get to the hard drive. Here is the full service manual complete with schematics and parts list.

I have a JVC DR-MV5S. When I dub a VHS to DVD,

The disk must be finalized. Instructions are on page 79 of the instruction booklet for the MV5S. I can't get the manual to download from the MVC site, but maybe it will work later. Hopefully you have the manual.

Dubbing VCR to DVD

Have you correctly referred to its original instruction manual? If not , try these simple instructions: 1. On the unit, Press the (VCR>>) button until it is illuminated 2. Still referring to the unit, Press the (DUB) button, which is situated in the middle of the (<<DVD) and (VCR>>) dub buttons. these two steps should automatically start a VCR to DVD dubbing. If not please continue to post, but in more detail, so your problem can be more easily interpreted, Thank you.

I can record to the HDD on my LG HR902TA but I can't understand the instructions to get the copy onto a DVD to finialise and use in another DVD player. Thanks Angie

I found the info for this from a friend saying, instead of 'copy' I should see if anything related to 'Dubbing', by following the instructions for dubbing I was able to copy the programme onto a DVD then finalise it for watching in another DVD player elsewhere in the house.I thought if you dubbed something you over wrote the original sound.

Dr-mh30s. stops dubbing after a few minutes.

I seem to have sorted this problem for me simply by unplugging power.
I actually left it for nearly a week before plugging in again, but I'm sure a day would do, probably less.
Dubbed 2 playlists since, no problem.
Nice simple solution if it works.
