SCANNER FAILURE

The issue is with hardware of the printer.
Scan feature is most expensive and sensitive part of the printer.
I suggest you to contact HP support. If the printer is under warranty you may get a replacement printer or else they may give you a better option.

If not on warranty you may try this workaround:

  1. With unit off, press the 'Cancel' (pink button) and 'Color' (green button).
  2. This will start the printer in a diagnostic mode. Press '1' to run the diagnostics.
  3. Press 'Enter' or other keys as directed by the display prompts. When you don't know what to press, the 'Enter' key usually works. Some of the keys called for (for example 'Plus' and 'Minus') are not on every psc 2210 keyboard. They are mapped to one of the "directional" keys just above the numeric keypad area next to the 'Enter' key. Keep trying keys till one works.
  4. After all the diagnostics, the display will either go blank or display 'Initializing...' . Wait 10-20 seconds to make sure it isn't doing anything else then press the 'On' key.
The printer should start without the scanner error and the grinding/chattering noise.

Leave the printer on because the next power cycle brings the chattering noise back.
But, when it does, the procedure above seems to fix it every time.

HP PSC 2210 won't initialise

Unplug the power cord from the All-In-One and also from the wall outlet,
Leave the cable unplugged for atleast 1Min.
Connect the cable directly to wall outlet without the surg protector and before connecting it to the All-In-One press and hold the # and no 6 Button and plug the cord to the unit without releasing the keys, it should come up with the message as Semifull Reset
If the display goes off or printer turns off then release the keys and turn the power on.

Good Luck.

Problems on paper jam (just after the selftest)mode switches blinking

You may have to reset the printer. I believe these are the directions to follow:

Re-initialize the HP All-in-One Force the HP All-in-One to reinitialize by following the steps below:
  1. Turn the unit off by pressing the ON button.
  2. Disconnect the power cord.
  3. Wait five seconds, then reconnect the power cord.
  4. If necessary, turn the unit back on and try reading the photo card again.
  5. If the unit fails to read the card again, reset the All-in-One. Repeat Steps 1 – 4, but before plugging the unit back in, press and hold the # and 6 keys on the HP All-in-One numeric keypad. Continue to hold these keys down for a few seconds after plugging the unit back in to reset it. Once the All-in-One reestablishes communication with the computer, reset the language and country/region.

Initialize printer

I have had this problem on numerous times over the last five years. The way i have cleared it is to remove the plastic cover covering the buttons by gently lifting with a small screwdriver. Then tug at the buttons especially the scanner button to release it as it sometimes seems to gets caught. I also turn off the machine at this point from the power source for about 10-15 mins restarting after this time this generally clears the jam. I have also on the odd occassion uninstalled the software and reinstalled it, mind you it has taken a day on one occassion to clear the jam.
