Sorry, but there's no safe or easy DIY fix for the lens problem, and any homebrew repair attempt will likely make the problem worse. I suggest that you take it to a local camera shop (NOT the camera department at a chain store) or contact the support folks via the Canon web site to arrange repairs. Be sure to get a firm price before you commit, though. The cost of the fix can approach the price of a new camera, and repairs typically only carry a 30-day warranty.

Hi,

please switch modes on your camera and check if the lens goes back in. If not, please use the zoom option to out and check if the lens begins to retract back into it's default position. Otherwise, you can restart the camera 2 or 3 times in a row to attempt to overcome the issue.

Thank you.

Action photos blurred using the zoom lens.

When shooting pictures, always check the length of the lens. Take the length in mm to decide how fast your shutter speed should be. When shooting 200 mm, the shutter speed should be at least 1/200 of a second. For a 400 mm it should be 1/400 of a second, and so on. With indoors sport, you need a lens with a huge aperture like 2,8 or better and a high ISO setting, to reach the speed needed for a long lens.
Modern lenses can have vibration reduction, and with these sometimes you can shoot 3 to 4 full stops sower.
A 200 mm lens with vibration reduction can be used then at 1/25 or even 1/15 of a second and still don't need to worry about motion blur.

Function set don't function, and zoom in function even not press

The non-functioning of the camera can be a fault in the shutter, zoom or auto focus sections and may be due to the failure of the Main control system or the drive. A simple was is to reset and we can try by removing the battery and card for some time. Now replace only the battery and while switching power ON, tap the lens hood on the palm of your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck. You can spray a degreasing spray on the lens hood sides and also assist the lens as it tries to come out, attempt to pull it out slowly while powering ON the camera. Also in some cases you can slid a thin film/paper on the lens hood sides to wipe out any dirt.

Tips to open and check for common faults: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2Mj3Qp3xYU&feature=related
Use some air to blow between the lenses to dislodge any sand particles struck inside. Unless you are familiar with handling of small devices must you try and open. If so check the voltage on the motor drive check the auto focus and Zoom drives, it must be free with manual movement. If jammed the motor can be removed and released. If none of these works then you can think of taking consensus with the service centre.
Get estimate before you decide. It will be good to have it checked at the authorised service as you do not have to run around for spares.

I have a Sumsung L201 digital camera & autofocus will not work. If I try zooming, It does it only once then will beep & switch off if I zoom any closer. if the target is within range, it takes nice...

The non-functioning of the camera can be a fault in the zoom or auto focus sections and may be due to the failure of the Main control system or the drive. This seems to be a mechanical fault and a simple way is to reset.Remove the battery and card for some time. Now replace only the battery and while switching power ON, tap the lens hood on the palm of your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck. When the lens comes out try and pull the lens with care , repeat till the lens comes out totally to free and realign by itself.

If not we need to open and check for a jamming of the lens system:

My camera dropped and the lens is stuck open. I can tell that it is not centered. The camera automatically shuts off.

The lens error is due to failure of the lens control system. You can remove battery and card replace battery and while switching on tap the lens hood on your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck/jammed while it fell down.

This lens error is due to failure of the ZOOM lens control system if the rest of the camera works well. You can remove battery and card replace battery and while switching on tap the lens hood on your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck.

Zoom lens problem

Most often these problems occur because of shocks received by the camera. The zoom mechanism in the lens assembly gets knocked out of place. Sometimes this happens just like that, without any clear reason. The lens assembly is a delicate mechanism if one small part gets out of the place it will damage or jam the whole mechanism. A service center can check for that. There is no way for the end user to proper realign the lens mechanism because it is sooo small. It requires specialised tools and hardware. Also, when you take the camera to a service, ask them an estimate of the repair, you will know if it is worth it. Repairs vary form a simple lens adjustment to the need of having the whole lens assembly replaced
