Magenta ink does not print. Black, cyan and yellow do print.

The ink tanks are full, but the printer will not print in black. The pages start to print in a brownish color for about three lines, and the rest print in a greenish color.

Your printer works with the BCI-3E (bk/cyan/magenta/yellow) cartridges, that are in fact just ink-tanks, the printhead being apart of the tanks, so if the cartridges are not empty, it cannot be because of them. It doesnt matter if you replace the cartridges, the problem is in the printhead. Curious thing is that usually it starts with pour quality printing if printhead starts to clogg, not with blank pages...

If the problem occured just a while ago, you should consider that NOT PRINTING a long time (30 days) with a printer can lead to ink drying out in the printhead, clogging the nozzles. But usually not entire, so that something is still printed, paper does not come out white.

Anyway, now it comes:
If you have some tehnical skills, you can remove the cartridge and desassembly the printhead (where the cartridge are in) and do the following:

First of all, look if there is somne ink lines on the nozzle part of the printhead. If you put a paper-tissue on the nozzles and it let on paper the 4 lines (black and colors) than maybe it's useless to clean the printhead, ink is comming trough and dont know why paper comes out blank.
If there are dry:
Put a paper-tissue on a small plate (like a coffee-cup plate), then put some boiling water on it, just 2~3mm of water over the tissue.
Put the printhead with the nozzles part downside on the tissue, in the hot water.
Let it stay there in the water 30 min.
Put the cartridges back on the printhead (without installing it in the printer), rap it in an other clean tissue, than shake it strongy as if you want to force ink to get out trough the nozzles. Then clean gentle the nozzle part of the printhead on some sheets of tissue.
Get the cartridges again out of the printhead, install it in the printer, then install the cartridges again and run a few cleaning processes from the printers maintenance software.

It should work. If you dont have the tehnicall skills needed, Canon gotcha, or you can visit a local specialist to make all this for you, they usualy have better equipmens, as ultrasonic cleaners and special solvents that makes all this easyer.

If after that still dont work, it's bad, it's not from cartridges or printhead, it's something else... Dont know what, from a distance.

Rate the solution if it helped you!

Thx.

Remove all cartridges. Snap the printhead lever on the right side of the cartridges down. Tilt forward, lift out printhead.  Rinse thoroughly in running water until the water runs clear. Submerge in distilled water and leave for an hour. Remove, shake out and dry thoroughly with a hair dryer on warm only (not hot). Replace printhead.  Run printhead cleaning routine three or four times.

Printer cartridge alignment checks

Is this with new cartridges or refilled?

If refilled, the nozzles may have become blocked which isn't the easiest thing to clear. If new cartridges, take them back for a replacement at the store and try again with new ones

Printer prints blank pages

The print head is a part of the printer itself and unlike other printers, you cannot remove it or soak it without ruining your printer. So just try the print head cleaning option and perhaps replace cartridges, especially if you are using a third party or refilled cartridge which can clog even if it is full.

Lexmark x4850. swapped oem with non-oem black cartridge. will not print black now. message says warranty does not support non-lexmark and prints blank pages.

“Lexmark does not support the refilling of its ink cartridges. Refilling the ink cartridges can cause them to leak, thus clogging or even damaging the print head. Any damage to your printer caused by refilled ink cartridges may not be covered under warranty”. Please use genuine Lexmark cartridges for best results.

I got my ink cartridges refilled - they didn't work - so I purchased HP cartridges - they still don't work - it prints a blank page

Goto printers and faxes folder in control panel and select the option that says add a printer .Click on next in the new window.
Uncheck the box that says "automatically detect and install my plug and play printer".
In the drop down list select your printer usb port.
click on next.
Under manufacturers click on "HP".
Under printers select deskjet 990c.
IN the next window click on next.
again click on next.
And click on finish,
Now try to print if still blank pages shoot out then the refilled cartridges have damaged your printer ink sensors but not to worry call up hp at 1800 474 6836 and believe me we will definitly give you a better solution either another printer with a 50% discount or ink install some software and get your issue resolved or something
