Question about HP DeskJet 9800 InkJet Printer

Hp9800-Printer will not take paper

Printer worked fine until recently, but now it won't take the paper, either A4 or A3! Have taken out the paper tray and taken the rear off, so see if I can diagnose the problem. What appears to be the problem is that the mechanism that normally offers up the paper is not springing up. It is permanently in the down position. Is there anything I can do about the problem, I've only had it just over a year (so the years guarantee has only just ran out! ) and it has only had moderate use (approx 3 or 4 print cartridges). I would imagine it is quite a simple mechanical problem. If anyone can shed any light on how to fix this, it would be much appreciated!

Everything was working fine - printing several pdf files on 11 x 17 paper. All of a sudden it errors out "out of paper" - It will take manual feed paper but not out of the tray. I just replaced the black cartridge (only the second one since new.)

Same problem.  Paper lifter is not functioning.  This started after I put through some card stock that was a bit too heavy.

I have the same problem on 3 of them. I can't figure out how the paper is picked up - I took apart 2 of them and I'm baffled ( I have fixed numerous printers before..).

Paper will not feed. I can feed, by hand, paper through the back.

I have the same problem with my 9800. I took every step mentioned with all the other complainers. After I called HP and got nowhere there, I decided to throw the thing in the dumpster and call Epson!!

A3 paper jams up as it exists the fusser unit. This usually only happens after printing off three sheets. A4 paper works fine. Paper weight is 80 grams on A3 and A4 and the fusser is set to normal...

chances are the pickup rollers are worn and in need of replacement, these are located just above the tray inside the printer and are both easy to remove and widely available

R1800 Borderless Printing Problem

Hi Tom, Have you downloaded the latest driver from the Epson web site. Also make sure the output tray is in the correct position and that you are using the correct paper. You can use the following media with this feature: Matte Paper - Heavyweight A3+, A3, A4 Premium Glossy Photo Paper A3+, A3, A4, 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 in.), 329 mm x 10 m, 210 mm x 10 m (Roll paper) Premium Semigloss Photo Paper A3+, A3, A4, 329 mm x 10 m, 210 mm x 10 m, 100 mm x 8 m (Roll paper) Archival Matte Paper A3+, A3, A4 Watercolor Paper-Radiant White A3+ Velvet Fine Art Paper A3+ Ensure the output tray is in the correct position as if the tray is too low and the paper "falls" down into the tray the weight of the paper could pull the last few millimeters of paper out of the exit rollers, causing the band.
