There might be two resons behind splitting:
1. The display panel cable is faulty or loose.
2. Display is faulty.
As you are saying that external display is working fine means there is no issue in system board. The display is very sensitive and no matter it is in the case.
The issue here seems with the display panle itself.
Perhaps this can help... I have the solution for the non booting Toshiba that I wrote almost a year ago. This tutorial (written and pics from the repair of my m35) is applicable to laptops that shut down without any warning, laptops that turn on only sometimes, and laptops that simply refuse to turn on (LEDs blink, fan spins up for a second and then everything just goes dead). So if your laptop does not turn on, it goes completely dead within a few minutes after bootup, here's the link to the tutorial. The repair takes about an hour, there's no need of replacing any parts, reinstalling any software or any other thing. The only investment in repairing your laptop with this tutorial is your time. Basically, you can repair your laptop within the hour, without spending any money for any parts or software. http://imateski.blogspot.com/2008/08/toshiba-satellite-m35x-motherboard.html
ok i found a couple more things...apparently you dont have to remove the battery.. I found this site that tells you two "jumpers" (solder squares) C88 i believe under the network card. But if you follow this link and follow the directions it will get you going again.
I don't know exactly at what stage you are at and i hope i didn't cause any trouble but this normally is how we take care of this problem. Unless once in a blue moon we come across one like this.
