I have a pioneer SX 1280 receiver it is a vintage receiver where can I send it to have it fixed. It has filter buttons that pop in the speakers very loud and the left channel destorts the speakers. Also I would like to know what is pioneers top of the cd player that would go well with receiver
I am an amature audiophile, but I will try to help you.
This was one of Pioneer's top models way back when. As far as the popping noise, you could try tuner cleaner on the switches or buttons. Make sure you follow the directions on the can. And turn down the volume all the way when switching these buttons. This unit is probably jam packed with electronics so it might be hare to get to the switches. As far as the distortion. It could be that the coupling capacitors are dried out and may need replacing. It could also be a bad transistor. This is not a job for an amature. I would suggest looking in the yellow pages for a good hi-fi technician to do the job. Make sure you ask him the cost up front and what kind of warranty he (she) gives.

I have taken my 1280 to Austin Stereo, they are honest , upfront, and guarantee their work. So impressed that I took a 1080 that two previous techs had butchered and they fixed it to like new specs.512-451-0408 is their #. They go out of their way to help those of us that are not well versed in techspeak. Both units sound superb with the big 15 inch Cerwin Vega speakers!!!
