Hi

If you have recently got a new router, there would be a firewall on the router blocking the required ports for LimeWire to operate. To get around this, refer to your Router's user manual and find out how to access it and then unblock those certain ports. PLEASE NOTE: Do not attempt to unblock all the ports as this will increase the risk of getting your router and perhaps your computers infected with viruses.

If that is not your problem, you may be using and ISP (Internet Service Provider) that has blocked those ports as downloading music uses a lot of bandwidth which is a burden on them. If you have Satellite Internet, this is probably the case. You can try and resolve this by contacting your ISP and negotiating a price for them to unblock the port for you.

Please remember to give this solution a FixYa! rating.

Kind regards

DCM425 doesn't have a built-in firewall with it. You might check something else - such as Windows Firewall or any of your Internet Security Programs to see if one of those are blocking Limewire.

I'll add a correction to this: according to the data sheet and the Thompson web site the modem does have a firewall. However, the manual makes no mention of it at all, nor have I ever encountered it at work.

5200 speedstream blocks my peer to peer sites, mystic island game site, all bittorrent downloads and limewire

Hi Shepherd1880,

First thing:
The computer that you're using for these services needs to have a static IP address configured in your private network and not a DHCP address assigned by the router.

Secondly thing:
Depending on your security policies (computer firewall and/or router), you will need to sure that the settings from your router and/or your PC firewall are not blocking the ports that you need to connect for these services.

Once you know that you have this area covered, you can move forward with the necessary procedures to properly configure your Speedstream 5200 using the link below:

Hope this helps!

Speedstream Modems and Firewalls

No, I would suggest using a router with a built-in firewall. Internal modems don't have firewalls.
