My eMachines 15" TFT LCD Monitor has been working fine since I got it with the computer about 2 years ago. Now when I turn on the PC I see
about a half-second flash of the image and then black. I plugged it
into the VGA port on my laptop and when I use the Function/F7 key to
display to the monitor, I see the same half-second flash of Image. If I
turn on the monitor without it hooked to a PC I get the half-second
flash of the "No Signal" box.
Can anyone suggest if it might be repaired and how? I have experience
as a computer tech and am not adverse top pulling off the covers, but
am not knowledgeable about troubleshooting monitors.

I have a E17TR (17") version that a friend gave me (free) a few months back, and just this morning it failed in the exact same way.
My theory is that the image is there but that it is just not being illuminated (so that I can see it). Such a case would suggest a problem with the Backlight or the Inverter.
I have found two web pages (from a company selling LCD repair parts) that can explain better than I.
http://www.lcdparts.net/CCFL1.aspx
http://www.lcdparts.net/DesktopInverter.aspx
Hope this help (the pages educated me).
Now if I can just figure out how to open the case; I took out the 4 screws (on the lower end of the back panel), but it just will not open in any way that seems logical . . . .

Usually answered in minutes!
emachine monitor acting stupid. It is a 17" flat screen bought less than 2 years ago. checked connections; plugged it into another computer and still will not work. It lit up, then as soon as we hit enter, the screen went black and the power light went off and will not come back on. I could hear the windows starting up, so it's not the computer. Please help!! Anyone have any ideas??
