Marantz should have this part. It is the original part so it costs a bit more, plus if you don't have an account with them i.e. you are not an authorized Marantz repair guy, it will cost even more. You need to tell them the model of the unit you are trying to fix and give them this part no. : BZ10102020. Tell them this is the MJI part number. Also, once they see the part on their database, ask for the description to make sure it is correct. Marantz phone #: (630)307-3100. This is a very nice unit and deserves only original parts. Let me know what happens. Good luck!

Hi There, I have a Marantz SR7005 Receiver and Bose 901 Series VI speakers with the Bose equalizer. I'm struggling to figure out the best way to connect the Bose equalizer/speakers to the SR7005. ...

It sounds like you've read one of my many posts on 901 deployment in the AV world.

Functionally, what is the difference between one amp with 'x' channels or 'x' mono amps? Nothing. Pre-outs don't know or care what else an external amp does.

According to this link http://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/products/new/642968.html those amps are 2- and 5-channel, respectively.

There was a time when I had two bridged-mono Carver Cube atmps (at a real 400 watts) pushing one 901 each but that was big time overkill.

I now use a Carver AV-406 (functionally the same as your MM7055) with the 901 EQ in between the AV Receiver's front pre-outs and two 110-watt channels. Other channels on the AV-406 pull subwoofer and surround back duties. My AVR directly powers only the center and surround speakers.

The MM7025 would work for you.

I am thinking of replacing my now very old JVC AX 330 amplifier with a Marantz PM7003 amplifier and want to know if this is a suitable replacement in terms of power output etc.

You, sir, are a rare adherent to stereo-only electronics. Are you replacing it for cause (showing its age)? The PM7003 is only 2 x 70 watts like the JVC but it also has separable preamp/amps so you COULD upgrade or augment the power output with external amps and still control it all locally.

Of course, any current AVR's do that too and bring digital sources and multichannel audio to the mix for as little as the PM7703 may cost.

I have a marantz sr 7001 amp and am running canton 4ohm speakers to front and centre should my amp get really hot and go into protect mode when I am giving it some serious volume

it is not made to drive 4 ohm loads.also if you measure the impedance on the speaker,at some frequencies,it is closer to 3 ohms. This will cause the amplifier to shut down.Today's amplifiers are embellished specs.the old marantz 2325 was 125 watts a channel and weighed 80 pounds. It would eat alive some of the 1000 watt home theater amps of today.Marantz is very nice stuff.

No sound on SR18

One of your five amplifiers has blown its output transistors. Unfortuately, with SR18s, many components down the line from the outputs get fried as well, and (in my experience, anyway) it usually takes hours to track down all the problems. You can still use the unit as a preamp/tuner/surround processor by taking signal out at the pre-out jacks (you have to remove the five jumpers), and feeding it into external power amps, but repairs to the SR18's amp are probably going to be costly and complex. Sorry about the crummy news - hopefully I'm wrong!

I baught an amplifier kit from maplin. its a 200w power amplifier. the problem is now when i turn it the two of the resistor gets hot and they are 5W 0.47ohm resistor. can you please help me with this...

Hi

Have you checked and set the bias current for the output stage. These 2 resistors will get hot if the bias is too high. Is it the firsy time you have fired the amp up? Operating in this condition may cause the output transistors to fail. If the output transistors are damaged, you would also experince heating of these resistors. Get back to me please and let me know if you have set bias

I am working on a Peavey Classic 30 amplifier. It is completely dead, no sound. All the tubes light up. The 12ax7 tubes don't seem to glow as bright as the L84 power tubes.

Hi directmusic

You can get a circuit diagram from here.

The 12ax7's will not glow as bright as the EL34's . Is just the nature of the tubes. The latter being higher powered and the 12ax7 low power. The EL84's as output tubes will always glow brighter, and often even with a dull blue glow about the plates from the higher voltages made available to them. If the plates them selves are glowing red(inside the EL34's). then you have a bias problem. Be careful running the amp in this condition. Do some static checks with the amp off looking for failed components about the bias and screen control stages. .

Start by checking all the DC voltages first. The circuit diagram i supplied the link for has voltages marked for you to check. A common problem with this amp is the 390 ohm 5 watt resistor going open. A faulty output tube(s) may also have caused this. I would replace the output tubes anyways for a good repair.

I am more than happy to answer any other questions you may have about it, just give me a hoy :) Thanks for using FixYa, If you consider the advice I have given you as sound, a FixYa rating is a great reward for my efforts to help you. Cheers.

robotek

It is likely that the PA stage has developed an offset voltage in the output stage. The faulty amplifier channel can be found by progressively disconnecting the collectors of the of the power transistors until the protection fault disappears. Once the faulty channel is found the the cause of the offset has to be traced to the faulty transistor or resistor. Don't forget that if you can smell smoke or burning then there are likely to be components(esp transistors) that have been damaged by the fault.
I had a Luxman unit that destroyed 5 transistors in the output stage that was due to an open .5W resistor in the driver stage.
Good luck.
