Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-42WE655 42" Rear Projection HDTV

Power supply block/lamp issues

I bought a Sony KDF-42WE655 in November 2004. Recently it started to have problems. First, I changed the lamp in July 2007. I had bought 2 spare lamps in early 2006 after I learned that there is a limited lifetime for these parts. Then the blue dot problem started in October which Sony took care of 100% in December 2007. About 3-4 weeks later, the tv stopped turning on. The power/standby indicator was blinking 5 consecutive times. After doing some online research, I learned that the problem was most likely with the lamp power supply block (part 146879816) and perhaps a lamp replacement was also necessary. Since I already had 1 more spare lamp, I ordered just the power supply block. Last night, I took the old power supply out and replaced it with the new one. The tv still didn't turn on, but the diagnostic lights changed. It was the lamp indicator that started to blink. So thinking that my spare lamp would come in handy, I changed the bulb too. But the tv still doesn't turn on. And the problem is still the lamp indicator.

I guess I'm at a loss here. Is it really the lamp that's broken or could there be something else going wrong here? Should I invest more money in this tv and buy another lamp (~$200) or just throw it away. Also, I don't know if there is a second hand market that buys used/broken tvs or used tv parts. Depending on the response I'll get from you experts, I might want to sell the power lamp supply since I didn't get even 1 days use out of it and spent about $140 on it.

Is there any recommendation you have for me? I appreciate your responses. Thanks.

it should be on the side of the set. Some models have them inside but most are on the outside of the cabinet.

I have a KDF 42WE655..while watching tv, I heard a popping sound.

If the lamp is blowing that soon, the cooling fan is not working, or is plugged with dust. I have heard some people have a filter that needs changing or cleaning. Check your manual. The cooling fan is on the optical block and not easy to get to.
Probably a job for a tech.
