Playstation 2 not working

By mistake I inserted the play station 2 controller in the memory socket. The controller has stopped working, hence I bought a new one. still I am not able to start the game. can anybody tell me what to do.

you may have sent a short through the system and caused problems in the controller ports. Depending where the copper pins are they may have made a bridge and caused electricity to cause a short
