Bought a new 42' flat - "No Program or Weak Signal"

I just bought a 42' HD Flat screen TV for my family. When we try to play VCR tapes, we get an error message: "No Program or Weak Signal" flashes on the screen. We are able to watch just a few seconds of a movie then it goes black and the above alert comes on the screen.

We can watch a DVD movie no problem, it just the VCR. We can't record anything with a VCR tape because we get the same message. We did not have any problems with our old TV which we replaced with the new JVC.

Any advice would be helpful because my daughter cannot watch some of her programs.
Thanks!

I have the exact same problem as mentioned above. I hooked everything up correctly and can watch a few seconds of a video but then get a "no program or weak signal" message.

This is the current setup: coax cable from wall to cable box, coax cable from cable box to vcr, coax cable from vcr to tv.

    Please help!

Hi,you have not said weather you are using a scart lead(euro connecter)or an RF lead,if you are using the later don't,please connect the vcr to the tv via the scart to scart euro connecters, use a good quality scart lead(the thicker the better)as the thicker ones generally are 21 pins connected meaning it should be auto switching so as soon as you play a tape it will come straight on.

Why won't older Sanyo VCR playback VHS tape on new HD-LCD TV?

Hello,
The problem is not with your TV. I have had this problem as well and the older the VCR gets the harder it is for it to turn the tape. Does your VCR react the same way with other tapes? Try Fastforwarding the tape about halfway and then test it again.

TV/vcr

VCRs are usually connected in Audio-Video inputs of TVs.
Please check what input is being used in TV for VCR cable hook up at rear of TV. Select that AV input in TV by remote and enjoy.

Troubleshooting vcr

Usually one connects a RF [cable tv, Dish tv, antenna ] cable to the INPUT of VCR & a RF cable output to tv (antenna )INPUT .The reason is that if you are watching TV reception (Cable, Dish, etc) and you want to watch VCR tape, just push the tape in and it should start playing picture.
From what I understand that you are trying to say:: [ YOUR NEW TV ! ] you MUST connect to the RCA jacks, CABLE S with RCA plugs that come out of the VCR to the new TV [ INPUT & OUTPUT] jacks .When you ["" use input botton on VCR remote"" ] you are using a DIFFERENT input signal. You are not letting the TV know that you are changing the signal from RF(antenna, Cable, Dish, etc)to the RCA signal ["" I use my input botton on my vcr remote""]

Picture is blurry on new Toshiba 42HL67 lcd tv

Hi suegy, the quickest thing to test is play a dvd and observe the quality of the display. if still blurry or dull, could mean something wrong with your TV. going through what causing it...could be weak signal or CCFL lamp not glowing enough or fully.

Since its only a month ago, should be still u/warranty. Check out where you bought from and avail that warranty.

Good Luck.

Have you tried the VCR on a different TV? Could be a faulty VCR and not the TV.

With what kind of cable do you have the VCR hooked up to the tv with? Composite or Coaxial?
