Recovery cds work only on the laptop at its original state, meaning not yet formatted, because the recovery disk is linked to the system to restore minor errors on the OS... Those cds have become useless since "he formatted the notebook", inside is not already the original files... Buy a windows XP installer and install it bu yourself... it is very easy....

Good luck....

What you need is to buy a WinXP installer... Returning the recovery CD for repair to the vendor will take months and sometimes forever... So find a vendor for WinXP installer or download an installer from the internet via Bittorent or Limewire...

    Hope that fixya your problem.

I suggest you try doing a system recovery..

To start the systemrecovery:
  1. Restart the computer.

If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available orfails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. 3. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.

Yes. Using the cds supplied by dell, boot the operating system cd. Delete the active partitions, then quick format it and proceed to reinstall windows. Once windows is installed, use the supplied application and driver cd to reinstall the applications and drivers that came originally with your computer, again following the onscreen instructions.

I think the peoblem is that you need to set the cdrom as first boot device, go into bios (F2 or Del on boot up) and enter advanced cmos settings and you will find that the HDD (Hard disk) is set as first boot device, change this with up/down keys or + - keys to cdrom as first boot device. save settings and exit for a restart with cd in drive.
