Ihave wired the amp up correctly, but when the stereo is on only the protection light is on, there appears to be no output, but there is an input. when the rca cables are taken out the light turns off altogether. do you no why is there a setting i need to change? the model is pyle 2210 2 channel 1400w.
I have the same amp and have that same issue before. yes you are correct that if you take off the RCA cables on the input there will be no light. either you have plug the remote line on the 12v or a grounded sub. it should be 12v/remote/ground from the corner. good thing im just fixing my sub earlier. it is no problem if you have hooked the remote line on the 12v, it is the same supposed to be. to check if your amp is working, short the 12v/ and the remote line and play your stereo and see if your sub is working. by the way, what sub are you using? i just blew my sub and need a new one.

What is the speaker load in Ohms that you are running? Or what exactly is hooked up to it? are you bridging it? The protection light will come on if the load is too much for the amp to handel. If the load (in Ohms) is less than the rated load that it can run, it will stop the output to keep the amp from self destructing. The amp will sense that the demand for power will be too high for the amps circuitry which will either make the amp get so hot that it will burn up the copper on the board or more likely burn up the power mosfetts that power the speakers. If the Ohms are within range then it will allow power to flow through the circuit until the rails that the mosfetts are bound to until they get so hot that it will go into thermal protection. So if your amp has both thermal and overload protection lights and the overload is light then the load is probably too much for the amp. if it's bridged in mono the you can only have 1 speaker setup hooked up it if it's a 2 channel amp. a 4 channel amp bridged in mono for both front and rear channels will be able to have 2 speakers rated a 4 ohms each hooked up to the amp 1 set per bridged output or channel. Try it running in stereo with only 1 speaker per channel and see if it will produce sound. If not then you have an amp that has internal problems and will need to be serviced. Check your warranty to see if you are covered.
the amp is going into protect mode due to something wrong in the amp or some thing in the wiring to it ooh yea if you are getting 18v power to the amp that is way to high it should not be higher then 15v if the amp is in protect mode it will not play at all.
If the protection LED lights only after the remote voltage is applied (head unit is switched on), the amplifier likely has shorted output transistors. If the protection LED remains lit without remote voltage applied, the amp may have other problems.
Does the protection LED light with no speaker wires connected to the amp and no RCAs plugged into the amp?
Disconnect all speaker wires from the speaker terminals of the amp and disconnect signal cables from the amp. If it powers up, the wiring needs to be checked. If the protect light remains on, the amp likely has blown output transistors.
In virtually all instances where the protection light is illuminated, the amplifier has gone into protection because the output transistors are shorted. To eliminate external wiring problems do the following.
Disconnect all speaker wires from the speaker terminals of the amp and disconnect signal cables from the amp. If it powers up, the wiring needs to be checked. If it still goes into protect, the amp likely has blown output transistors.
If it does have blown outputs, it's is likely due to the speaker wires shorting together when the woofer was out of the vehicle.
