Our TV is about 18months old and it has 3 large horizontal scratches on the screen. We thought is was damage caused by our toddlers but the lines are growing, one nearly spanning the entire screen. Any suggestions ?
This is a fault i have seen with phillips lcd tv's and i suspect it could be the lcd screen itself, the ribbon cables from the screen are heat contacted on to a circuit board and there could be anything from 10 to 15 of these ribon cables and over a period of time the heat generated from the internal panels will deteriorate the plastic ribbon cables.
Try twisting the screen gently by placing your left hand on the top left hand corner and your right hand on the top right hand corner and gently twisting,if the lines go and then come back after you let go then a new screen will be required but it may be cheaper to buy a new one, could be worth buying the extended warrenty.

Not possible.Tv have damages to it LCD screen panel by an object or a person have causes by forced or putting pressure to the tv LCD screen panel itself to causing colors picture pixels and it radiation to died to causing this problems.Sorry it time to buy a new tv,because by replacing the tv LCD screen panel itself will cost u the same as a new tv.Tries buy a new tv from the VIZIO tv corporation directly return the damages LCD panel tv to them,u could get a 5 or 10% off of the tv prices.
I have used clear plastic sheets and silicon tire dressing for smaller problems like this, but no idea how well it would work with a large screen TV. The westleys silicon tire shine smooths out the scratches, and you place the clear plastic sheet on top of that and work out any bubbles then tape the ends. It pretty much changes a standard screen into a glossy screen with the added benefit that you can always replace the sheet if it is damaged. I usually get my clear plastic sheets packaged with the new LCD screens I purchase for repairs and I just keep them in storage.
Horizontal or vertical bars on the screen could be from an ac line interference, adjacent magnetic field, bad input wire connections.....especially HDMI connector cables. A bad HDMI cable causes all kinds of unwanted picture interference. Check the conditon of all connection wires for proper fit and function. Keep in mind the method in which you connect your tv will result how the tv performs. As well this line problem could be a circuit issue too, requiring a technician to look at it.
It sounds as if it has a video processing problem or the LCD panel is going bad. Can you feel the scratches? If not it is in the panel. Also it could also be the set top box or cable box if you are using one. Also try another source like a DVD player. If it is still there, then it sounds like what i stated above. Good luck and keep me posted. Guru Jay
here's something you can try...remove the back and notice that there are ribbon cables (FRAGILE!) on the right and left side...alot of times these cables develope bad connections and cause the lines you see...other times the panel will be suspect. Removing these ribbon cables and reseating them have helped me determine in the past if it is a bad connection...or a bad panel
