When i press the "start scan" button. i received the "waiting for PC message. Usually, a message will appear on my computer scan to ask if it is a file. I will then select it and it goes to "My Scan" file and i get a copy. But recently, i reached the "waiting for PC" message and nothing else happens? how can i get the scanner to work again

This is due to a hardware failure, the scanner assembly and the formatter board will need to be replaced.
NVRAM INIT 1. Turn off the all-in-one 2. Press and hold down the * and enter buttons. 3. Continue to hold down the buttons while you turn on the all-in-one. Hold the buttons throughout the entire power-on sequence. 4. When Permanent Storage Init. appears on the control-panel display, release the buttons. 5. Allow the all-in-one to return to Ready before using it. storage init. appears, and then release the buttons.
WHen you open the scan application and get to the point just before you scan... open at the top menu "File" and request to "Save As" and give it the "Name.BMP" see if that helps..
You named the folder but you did not mention naming the file you want to save????
Scanning requires two-way communication between the computer and the scanner. Usually the error that you describe above indicates an issue with the USB connection. First, make sure that you are not using a USB hub. Try a new USB 2.0 (A-B) cable that is under 6' long. Try using a different USB port on the computer.
If the problem persists, check the Device Manager to see if you have a USB driver problem. (For most versions of Windows, press the Windows key + X to quickly access the menu with the Device Manager.) Expand the section labeled Universal Serial Bus controllers and look for an exclamation point or an X. Similarly check for any issues in the Devices and Printers section of the Control Panel. The All-in-One should be listed as a printer and a scanner.

Hi s2009edwards, double check the USB data cable from the printer to the computer. Power off the printer. Than, unplug the data cable connected to the printer & re-connect it. Follow the data cable to the PC & unplug the cable & re-connect it. Power on the printer & wait until its done making noise. Try scanning again. You can open HP printer software there should be an HP icon down by the clock. Right click on it once & left click open or launch. If you did not install your HP printer software suggest you do so.
Scanner utility is pretty much come with the software. You can input the paper like you input for fax, either on the top scanner or the scanner itself and then just press scan on your printer. It will automatically scan to your computer. Please make sure your computer is connected to the printer.
1,Unplug the USB cable
2,Place the allignment paper in the right bottom corner of the scanner glass
3,close the lid
4,Press the Start scan button
You will find the light blinking wait until it completes.
Then connect the cable and the issue will be resolved.

If your still looking for a solution, or to those of you who have a similar problem, the following fixed my problem after trying to resolve the issue over the last year!!!!
I also received the "not set up on pc" message and tried re-installing the software numerous times.
Finally resorted to re-installing windows XP (because of this and other software glitches) and re-installed the Laserjet 3050 software again...but could not get the printer to install.
The problem was occuring while the software was asking to "plug in the usb cable", but would not complete the installation. It was not recognizing the device....the solution was to reset the laserjet 3050!!!!
to reset, push the "menu" button, < (left arrow), go to "service", "enter" button, > (right arrow), "Restore Defaults", "enter" button.
This should reset the factory defaults.
