Thanks for your suggestion re the sensor. The sensor on the V3 was covered by a small silver strip. I couldn't locate the battery life so I removed the battery and looked where you suggested the sensor would be. I removed a small silver strip, hopefully I haven't ruined anything but at least the keypad lights up now. Thanks so much!

Have you tried it in the dark? There is a photo sensor that is located just above the right soft-key. It looks like a pin hole. Put your thumb over the hole and press a key on the keypad, you should see the keys light up. The purpose of this sensor is to prolong the battery life by not having to light up the keypad in the daylight.

There is a way to disable the photo sensor so that the keypad is on whether it is day or night. Look for a setting that allows you to turn the "battery saver" feature off.

Good luck!

I have the same problem, though it did go in the open sea.

Please dry up the phone with your hairdryer without putting the heat on. There may be some traces of water playing dirty tricks. And dont be in a hurry. And you should have removed the battery immediately to avoid any short circuits. Hope there are none so far.

Motorola V3 Razr Keyboard will not light up

Are you getting sounds from the dial pad? It should default to momentary lighting, but it can be adjusted for longer time. It sounds faulty, did you purchase a refurb?

I had the same problem with a RAZRV3xx, with the 3 key. My solution was to blow compressed air at the keypad, so far, this works.
