Which operating system did you switch your laptop to? I would check the Roxio software update site to see if there's an update for your specific version:

How do I burn multiple slide shows to DVD using Roxio 2011

Create the multiple slide shows and store them in a directory that you have created on your hard disk just for those slide shows. When all the slide shows are present in that directory, start Roxio, use the Add Files function and go to that directory and select all of the files you want on the DVD. Name the DVD to something that indicates what is on it and start the Create/Burn to make your DVD.

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error when starting Roxio creator

Hi.

I have had several questions from users getting Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library errors when starting Roxio Creator 2010 and previous versions.
After the error prompt, the software will close down.

The problem is caused by a system error , and this sometimes is causedby Microsoft self installing update, that confuse settings of installedsoftware.

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Libraries are part of the operativesystem, and this kind of Run time errors are commonly caused whenapplications try to access resources that are allocated for otherprocesses.

A new Roxio installation did not fix the problem, because the newinstallation will still keep the registry settings from oldinstallation.

If the problem started recently you can try the following:

Uninstall Roxio.
Do a System Restore to a date before the problem started.
Reinstall Roxio.

See: How to install System restore.

If that does not fix the problem you can also try the following;

Uninstall Roxio
Create a new user with administrator privileges
Log in using the New User account
Install Roxio again.

If the problem was bound to local user settings, this will fix the problem.

If the problem is still there, then the most efficient way to proceedis by doing a new Windows installation, using a Windows setup disk or arecovery disk for your computer.
Do a full backup of your data before reinstalling Windows.

See:Install, reinstall, or uninstall Windows

The solution does not apply only to Roxio, but can fix the same problem on different software.

Regards.

Is this a good item to invest in?

To me this is alot like Roxio VHS to DVD. What this has in common with the roxio product is they both hook up by a USB cable. The video quallity on the roxio product was not very clear and the Dazzle product has the same kind of video quality problems. Your best bet is to get a good video capture card that plugs into an PCI slot cause they run more stable and you get better video quality.

If you have just a laptop then this product would be slightly better then Roxio.

Fixing the problem simply involves deleting the filter entries for the third-party device drivers. These entries can sometimes become damaged (which is what produces the "corrupt registry" warning). To delete the offending keys, open the Registry and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlCl ***\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. . Delete the keys named UpperFilters and LowerFilters and reboot.Several of the products made by Roxio are infamous for causing this problem, although in fairness to the company the most recent versions of their Roxio CD/DVD writing software (6.2 and higher) do not have these problems. Users of 5.0 or 6.0 editions of the Easy CD & DVD Creator product, which has been bundled with many new PCs in the past, should upgrade to 6.2 or better. Other programs can also cause this problem, with the same solution.
Note that after you do this, you may lose functionality in the program that uses the filter drivers, which may need to be reinstalled.

Roxio Easy VHS to DVD install causes PC to hang up.

Do you have any other conflicting software or any other Roxio software? Any other Roxio or Sonic software will cause errors with Easy VHS to DVD.

It's also recommended to download the Service Pack from the Roxio.com site.

I cannot load the Roxio DVd cd that was purchased with the laptop

try loading other cds on the laptop or loading the roxio cd on another computer.
if the cds that you try to load dont work on the laptop then it is your laptop drive that does not work and should try to get that fixed.
if the roxio cd does not work on another computer then it is the roxio cd that doesnt work and you should get a free exchange from either the store you bought it from or the company that makes it

Turns back on

First, it would help to know a little about your system. Are you running XP? The major cause of reboot instead of shutdown is Roxio software. If you have it installed, you might note that the light on your CD/DVD drive stays green throughout the process. Alternatively, you may have "wake on LAN" turned on -- but this is unlikely unless you've been fiddling with BIOS settings. If it's Roxio causing the problem, you can find a patch here: http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/
