Drivers are not needed for this Ext HDD.
If you go to your Computer Management>Storage Devices, you will have to assign a Drive letter for it to show in your "My Computer" as a External Hard Drive.
Also ensure that drive is set as "slave" and do not connect until computer is booted to Desktop.
All changes will take effect after reboot.
To my knowledge too, there are no drivers required for an external hard drive.
If your PC displays the message as you have posted, it can only indicate that: 1. The USB interface of the external HD enclosure is detected, but 2. The actual hard disk inside the external HD enclosure is not detected. Which can only mean that it is a hardware problem and that your external HD may be defective. This can be confirmed by physically removing the HD inside the enclosure of the external casing and mounting it internally to a desktop PC as a Primary Slave or Secondary Master/Slave (as applicable) and running your CMOS/BIOS to autodetect. If it can be detected, proceed booting to your OS and run diagnostics or utilities to determine hard drive health.
hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

I have a Seagate Freeagent 1.5TB hard drive. One day I left in a hurry and I forgot to disconnect my hard drive from the power source and from the usb. When i came back after about 5 hours the drive was beeping and every time I connect it to the power it starts beeping. My computer doesn't recognise the drive and I've also tried with two other computers.

I had the Cruzer micro plugged into my comp when i looked and noticed that it wasnt lit up anymore. I pulled it out and noticed it was very hot. What has happened to it? Has it fried itself? If it has is there anyway to recover the data stored on it?
