Question about Hitachi TravelStar DK23EA Series DK23EA-30 (08K1292) 30 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Drivers I have a Compaq Presario SR5025AN Desktop PC running Vista Home Basic. A Hitachi Travelstar DK23EA 30 gig external drive has been sent to me with very important info on it. I went to plug it in to my computer and the computer does not recognise it. I have tried installing the drivers for it but get the message "Cannot find drivers for your device". The drive shows up on every other computer I have tried it on. What is wrong?

Hi,

Vista has been known to have multiple USB issues. You can try:
1. remove/uninstall USB instances/drivers in your Device Manager and reinstall but use the USB drivers at the Compaq website for your PC;
2. Update/Patch your Vista US

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

1. Decide which hard drive will be the startup (master) drive. If this drive was the startup drive previously, or if it's a new hard drive, then the master drive designation will already be set.
2. To change the designation of a new drive to be a slave drive, skip to step 4.
3. To change the designation of an existing drive to be a slave drive: Turn off the computer, unplug the power cord, remove the drive from its drive bay, and disconnect the drive from its power cord and ribbon cable.
4. Check the hard drive documentation or the label on the drive itself for master/slave jumper settings.
5. Find the jumpers on the circuit board of the drive. Jumpers are plastic plugs with metal sleeves that form a circuit between a pair of pins. Jumper locations are labeled on the board with a J followed by a number (such as J20).
6. Use tweezers or very small pliers to remove or reposition the jumpers to the configuration shown in the documentation or on the disk label.

I have a message rebooting computer dell inspiron 8500 with DK23EA-30 "Warning: Dell's Disk Monitoring System has detected that drive 0 on the primary EIDE controller is operating outside of normal...

This is a SMART hard disk monitor Warning. You should probably make a backup on an external drive just in case the drive decides to fail completely.

My Hitachi DK23EA-30 Hard Drive (Dell Laptop) takes forvever to

Sounds like maybe the hard drive is starting to fail (very common in a 15 yr. old laptop). See/get a new one here:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=emachine+8230+power+supply&LH_PrefLoc=1&_sop=15&_armrs=1&_dmd=1&LH_BIN=1&_osacat=0&_ipg=100&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XHitachi+DK23EA-30.TRS0&_nkw=Hitachi+DK23EA-30&_sacat=0

You should try and locate the support page for your Dell at Dell.com, because if you try to reinstall XP on a new hard drive, most likely many drivers will be missing, and you would have to get them from the Dell support page.

But installing XP in 2018 would leave you without hundreds of updates, as Microsoft has not supported XP since April 2014. They have not supported Vista since April 2017. So I would recommend upgrading to at least Windows 7, as Microsoft will probably support it until 2020.

I just installed Windows 7 on an old HP Celeron (Celeron processor is like one notch better than a Pentium 4). It works pretty well - turned off all the Win7 Aero junk to make it run a little faster. I can even watch YouTube on it and stuff! lol.

Good luck.

Try memtest86 and be sure the memory in the system is working. Also, some systems are tied to APCI... make sure your bios has it enabled.
