Fridgidaire Dryer not drying completely

Good Morning David, thank you for allowing me to assist you!

I understand your dryer is experiencing lack of heat. There are several factors that could cause this; some of which you can check prior to scheduling a professional.

Have you checked your lint filter recently? I ask because if a lint filter is full of lint it will restrict airflow and lengthen dry times. To keep your dryer working correctly, clean out the lint folder area after each and every use. Check the lint filter for any buildup of fabric softener that will also restrict airflow and wash with soapy water to clean. If the filter is damaged then it will need to be replaced.

Additionally to checking the lint trap area, please investigate the ventilation (duct work) system connecting to your dryer. Often we forget to clean this duct work therefore over time debris can restrict air flow. Check the air flow by disconnecting the accordion-like duct work from the dryer appliance. Run a drying cycle, with clothes inside the unit, but keeping the duct work disconnected. If you notice any improvement, then the ventilation duct work (often going through your floor or side wall) will need to be thoroughly cleaned. Also make sure you do not have multiple turns or kinks in the duct work. The more curves or turns this duct system has to take to exit the air outside, the more restricted it can get. The more restriction you experience the more time it will take the unit to dry.

Do you notice any unusual rumbling or rubbing noise when in use? This could indicate a faulty blower wheel. A blower wheel that is not firmly attached to the motor can slip and therefore not move air fast enough to properly dry clothes or even reduce airflow to the point where the high limit thermostat (a fuse like component) may trip and turn off the heat circuit. A loose blower wheel will usually make a rumbling noise that is easily noticed. Inspecting the blower wheel is usually a task for a professional considering you must take apart most of your appliance to make sure it is tight to the motor shaft.

If you have a gas dryer, gas valves could also cause you an issue. Defective gas valves can create a symptom of taking too long to dry if they are intermittent and require professional attention. A professional is needed to check for proper flame ignition for a complete drying cycle to determine if this may be your point of concern.

On many dryers you will find "drum seals" in between the unit's drum and the front door. The drum seals are used to prevent excess air from entering the dryer drum and act as a cushion between the drum and the front and rear access. The drum seals are made up of a felt like material. If the seal is torn, or is worn, then clothing can become stuck in the gap when the drum is turning. This can produce a scraping or thumping noise and the clothes can also be ripped and/or have black marks on them. This will also affect your drying time tremendously.

While you are checking the drum seals please check the door of your dryer as well. When the door is closed in gas and electric dryers the door seal helps to keep cooler air from entering the drum. Keeping the correct temperature at all times inside the dryer ensures that the clothes will dry efficiently. If clothes are not drying then inspect the door seal for signs that it may be worn or damaged.

If none of the above solutions prove to be successful, it would be advisable to contact an experiencing repair tech to assist further.

Best of luck!

Dryer drum loose not lining up properly making a huge thumping sound

Identification of Dryer Problems

Signs that an electric dryer may need some repairs include the dryer not heating, clothing not drying fast enough, overheating of the dryer, the door not locking shut and the dryer not starting at all. Any of these are signs of an underlying problem that can usually be solved without the help of a repairman.
Effects of Dryer Issues

If an electric dryer doesn't heat properly, it prevents the clothing from becoming dry in most cases. Restricted venting can cause clothing not to dry fast enough, as the dryer will cycle the heating. Overheating dryers can ruin clothing or cause burns. If the door on a dryer wont close, it is impossible to get any laundry dried. A dryer not running at all can be very frustrating and lead to owners needing to use a laundromat.
Considerations for Solving Common Problems.If the dryer wont heat up, owners should check the circuit breaker to see if it's down. The voltmeter at the wall plug should read 240 volts. Checking the power cord can show owners if the wires are burned where they meet the dryer.Clothing not drying fast enough and overheating are signs of restricted venting. Removing the vent hose from the dryer can help owners decide if this is the cause of clothing not drying. If the hose is removed and the dryer runs normally, the vent should be cleaned.White plastic or thin foil ducts can also lead to overheating. Only metal ducts should be used with dryers. Kinks in the vent hose can also lead to heating issues. Overheating can also be caused by a shorted heater coil, a bad operating thermostat or worn drum seals.If the door on an electric dryer will not close, it is usually a problem with the door catch. This can be solved easily by purchasing a replacement door catch for the dryer.
When a dryer wont run, it could be a number of issues. The circuit breaker may be down or the wires at the plug may be burned. It may be an issue with the door switch. The door switch should click when closed. The thermal fuse should be checked for any issues.
Preventing Dryer Problems
The electric heating element, thermostats, fuses and thermal cut-off should be checked regularly for continuity. Dryer vents should not exceed 18 feet without a helper blower in the duct. Vents that are run vertically need to be cleaned out once a year. A meter can be purchased and used to diagnose problems with your electric dryer.
Warnings and Tips.Inexperienced people should never try to fix electrical problems at home. A professional should always be used if dryer owners suspect a more serious problem. Dryer owners can purchase kits to make cleaning dryer vents easier.

How do replace heating element in dryer

Instructions
Things You'll Need:

* Volt meter
* Clean cloths
* Waste bin
* Replacement fuse (optional)

1. Secure the power cord in the Frigidaire dryer as well as the power outlet if the dryer does not start. Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker if necessary.
2. Check the fuse if there is power but no heat, as dryers need two fuses in order to operate properly. Replace the fuse if necessary. Select heated cycles if items are wet and cold after drying.
3. Open the dryer door and slide out the lint screen if the dryer seems to be taking a long time to operate. Clean off the lint and return the lint screen to the unit. Use a volt meter to check the power outlet for proper electricity, which should be 240 volts or more. Clean the exhaust hood outside the home and straighten the exhaust vent if bent.
4. Keep the load size medium and distribute pieces evenly inside the drum if items are wrinkled or damp. Increase drying time or temperature as necessary.
5. Check pockets for hard objects before putting pieces in the dryer, as items can create scratches or chips inside the drum and cause a clinking noise during use.
6. Contact Frigidaire for assistance if the problem continues.

Takes 1-2 hours to dry a load of towels. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to improve this problem? Filter is clean. Vent pipe is clear.

Open the door and shine a flashlight at the back of the drum, you should see a grouping of holes about the size to stick a pencil through. Do you see lint covering some of the holes? If you do, unplug the dryer, take the back panel off (1/4" screws) and there will be a black duct on the left hand side behind the panel, remove the duct and you will see the holes this time from the back, and you can remove the lint, while you are there, clean the lint from the duct and the blower assembly at the bottom of the duct. If you don't see lint upon initial inspection it could be a weak or burnt heating element, you can access the elements the same way, but instead of the black duct they are under a black cover on the right hand side. MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG ANY APPLIANCE BEFORE REMOVING ANY SERVICE COVERS!!!!

It has gotten noisy and it takes over 2 hours to dry a load.

the noise could be the blower wheel and if that's not moving air it's not gonna dry,or the dryer is filled with lint and needs a clean out,you need to remove the duct that the lint filter slides into so you can clean the duct and you can inspect the blower wheel then,it's behind the duct,also clean out the vent line,you could have damaged the pulley or rollers from the block in the dryer,if the air isn't blowing out freely the dryer runs hotter than normal and can damage parts in the dryer,should clean out the dryer once a year

Dryer not drying in one cycle. takes multiple cycles do dry one medium size load. the machine is less than a year old and we clean the filter after every load. checked the vent hose and its clear with no...

HI, Check the following to address this issue further.

Note: Normal drying time for a dryer is about 45 minutes (some may take up to an hour).

1. Venting
Make sure the dryer vent hose, as well as the rest of the vent duct, is not clogged.

Unless regular maintenance is performed, chances are there is a lot of lint accumulated inside the dryer. This might affect the drying time and could be a fire hazard. Make sure to have your dryer cleaned regularly. Because this might involve taking most of the dryer apart, it is recommended to have a qualified appliance repairman perform this task.

2. Thermostat
There are a couple of cycling thermostats inside the dryer. If one of them breaks down, it might affect the dryer's performance. Replace the defective thermostat. These thermostats are located in the dryer vent duct and sometimes mounted on the blower assembly as well.

Dryer not completely drying clothes.

Cleaning the lint trap of the dryer may is not enough in some cases. I suspect you may have a problem with the vent ducting that extends from the the exhaust of the dryer to where it exits your home. The majority of dryer heat realted problems are due to poor ventilation and clogged vents. I dryer left in this condition will overheat to the point of failure. Not to mention, this creates a fire hazard and a habitat for rodents.

A simple test to determine if you have a dryer ventilation problems is to remove the vent hose from the back of the dryer and attempt to dry a load WITHOUT the vent hose attached. The air exiting the back of the dryer should be warm and forceful. If the clothes dry normally, then you need to inspect your vent ducting from where it enters the wall, to where it exits the home.

If the air flow is weak and your clothes still take a long time to dry, then you need to inspect the INTERIOR ducting of the dryer. Namely, the air blower housing. I suspect you'll find your clothes will dry better with the vent hose removed. Since it dried normally BEFORE you moved, and now it doesn't, you need to take a serious look at where the vent exhausts to. If the ducting runs through and attic or crawl splace they typically development sags, kinks and can clog. The rule of thumb when it comes to ducting: the SHORTER and STRAIGHTER, the better. Every bend you put into a dryer vent creates resistance to air flow, makes the dryer blower fan work harder and creates choke points where lint can accumulate and clog. Perform this simple prelimnary check and let me know what you find. I hope you find this advice helpful.

PS Do not run your dryer for extended periods of time without the exhaust hose attached. This will add humidity to your home and potential mildew. One load should be enough to determine if you have a problem. Don't run it this way as a normal everyday routine.
