Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

Windows Vista and Autocad r14

When activating Autocad R14, Vista displays a
Smart Heap Library box stating -
"Mem_Bad_Pointer".
Have tried loading with compatability configs.
No luck.
Autocad 2000 runs fine. So far.
Thanks for your time.

Autocad 14 was released long before Vista and is no longer supported by Autodesk. Some people have managed to get it to run on Vista but it is not easy. You can install it on Windows XP. This issue is discussed here...

When I type Shift + @, my new Acer computer give me " and vice versa. How may I alter this?

This is probably a different keyboard layout that you used to know.

  1. Click Start , type intl.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
  2. On the Keyboards and Language tab, click Change keyboards.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Expand the language that you want. For example, English (United States).
  5. Expand Keyboard list, select the United States-International check box, and then click OK.
  6. In the Default input language list, click Language name - United States-International (where Language name is the language that you selected in step 4), and then click OK two times.
  7. In the Regional and Language Options dialog box, click OK.

Notice that the Language bar appears on the taskbar. When you position the mouse pointer over it, a ToolTip appears that describes the active keyboard layout
  8. Click the Language bar, and then click United States-International on the shortcut menu that appears.

The United States-International keyboard layout is selected.

INFORMATION - MEM- BAD- POINTER and not able to continue to use Autocad 97 program files

LOL your computer had a soft error and you forgot how to use AutoLISP? Perhaps your office caught the force of the recent tsunami? Information isn't fatal; the warnings and alerts/failures after that should offer a little more detail on what makes a problem a showstopper. What actually happens?

It sounds like either memory went bad and your program won't start up as usual, or the installation (possibly including add-in libraries, etc.) was corrupted. Get an extra backup image on a fresh hard drive, try reinstalling on either one, and see if things improve. Failing that, give a bit more debug information, including verbose log excerpts, etc.

My computer died. Had to buy new & went to Windows 7. Several CDs that installed programs on Vista and XP now won't load. E.g., Lotus Smart Suite displays "error accessing the system registry", then...

I have Win7 and am running Lotus Smart Suite 95 with no problem except for Approach which pops a message that I ignore.

Did you got to the CD and tell the install/start to run as administrator?

Help! I have vista preinstalled in my laptop, can't run autocad

Hi,
This is the price to pay for pirated stuff!, I suggest you uninstall your software and re-install it but before doing so make sure that your internet is disabled (manually disconnect from you provider or disable your wifi card). Then do your work, saves your files and connect to internet without running your software if you need to send a draft to a friend.

Hope it helped,

32 bit program to 64 bit opperating system

From the Autocad webiste:
System Requirements AutoCAD® Civil and AutoCAD® Civil 3D® 2009 Recommended System Requirements Recommended configuration (excluding server components used with project management capabilities):
  • Intel® Pentium® 4 (3 GHz or higher); AMD Athlon™; multiple processors supported, dual-core supported
  • 32-bit only: Microsoft® Windows Vista® Ultimate/Business/Enterprise, Microsoft® Windows XP (SP2)
Note: Windows XP 64 and Windows Vista 64 are supported in 32-bit compatibility mode only.

Here's how you should be able to run it in compatibility mode:
1. Right click on the Autocad Icon in your start menu
2. click on Properties
3. click on the Compatibility tab at the top
4. check the box next to Compatibility Mode and select Vista 32 bit if it is given as an option.

I don't have Vista here, but that is how it works in XP and I did do a search and it appears to be the same in Vista.
