Ice forming in Freezer Basin

The first time I noticed the problem was when our water pressure was reduced to a drizzle by the utilities co. I found that the ice maker basin had frozen and backed up. Then the water supply was overflowing and dripping down the inside of the freezer and the ice bin. So I defrosted the entire freezer thawled the ice maker. I am no longer experiencing any water from the to p of the freezer but I am still getting ice forming in the basin. So I again removed averything from the freezer removed the back aluminum cover and notice a little condensation on the back cover. I thought that maybe the temp was not high enough and set it too cooler and replaced everything back in the fridge. Not fixed? I am still getting ice formations. I have read other similar problems but I am confused. I can see a drain that has a rubber plug. Is this the same drain that is the evaporation line or is there another one I should be looking for? I do not see a drain pan underneath the fridge so I am concerned that if all of this water drains daily it will eventually end up on the hardwood floors. Please help?

Hi. That is the only drain for the evaporator water during the defrost cycle. Take the back aluminum cover off again and pour hot water into the drain. If it won't drain, take a hose and put it over the drain and blow into it. That will remove the sludge in the trap and it will drain good now. I've seen alot of nice hardwood floors damaged with this problem. Good luck, Mack

Top ice maker in Samsung RFG298AAPN does not make ice. No water cycles into icemaker. Icemaker has been reset, nothing after 2 days. Should I replace the icemaker or the water valve.

On these models I've noticed that the temperature in the ice maker area warms up due to a ball of ice forming inside the freezer compartment ice maker fan that has vent going to the ice maker. Until it is found whether or not that ball of ice is blocking the vent and fan you won't be able to go to the next step. The switch on the ice maker will test the ice maker by filling it with water and rotating the Forks that dump the ice into the ice bin Appliance 911 Sea Breeze

Water forms in the bottom of the freezer section. The water supply has been turned off

The issue you have there is not with ice machine water, but with condensation flowing onto the floor because the drain pipe channel is blocked. You need to defrost for 5 hours and then move behind to the compressor. Locate a small pipe above the compressor which drains into a basin. Blow hard into this pipe and you will feel the pressure release. The blockage will then be clear. Ready to go.(Dont put compressed air into the opening as this can rupture the tube if it is iced up.)

I set the ice maker feature to make cubes with my samsung refrigerator rs2555sw. But the ice maker makes a ice chunk. All the cubes are frozen together with a flat and thick layer of ice on top..

Hi and welcome to Fixya.

Remove the front cover after the ice tray has dumped cubes and remove all of the water from your ice maker tray.

Then depress the test button on the bottom of the icemaker (in front on bottom) located about 1 inch from the lower rh corner.

The icemaker fill cycle should add just enough water to cover barely cover the tray. (see page 32 of the 25 Sept 2005 user's manual)

If it is overfilling the icemaker fill time / water level needs to be reduced on the ice maker module. A normal fill cycle is about 7.5 seconds.

Another thing that will cause larger cubes is high water supply (utility co) pressure.

A temporary fix would be to slowly close the refridgerator water supply line's shut off vavle so that the water flow restricts.

The real solution is to investigate ice maker fill time, and the function of the icemaker water supply solenoid vavle for possible Delayed closing of the internal diaphram.

Hollow ice cubes and ice cubes getting jambed by abnormally shaped ice formation on the rotating teeth?!?!?

More than likely, the water entering the icemaker is not enough, possibly caused by clogged water valve or reduced pressure from incoming water line. Check water line pressure if ok proceed to replace the water valve.

GE Monogram refrigerator/freezer problem/ice dam in ice maker

I have had the same problem with ice forming. I found the problem is from the ice maker. The water fill tube delivers water to a plastic piece that acts like a funnel. The water goes through this plastic piece into the ice maker. Ice forms in the plastic funnel piece causing the water to overflow into the ice bin and freezer.

Water leaking from freezer compartment and ice maker not working properly

I figured it out. When the water filter gets old and plugged up, not enough water flows into the cube trays. You can fix the ice problem by replacing or just removing the filter. (The filter really isn't necessary unless your water comes from a well or some other undesirable source.) The filters cost about $40 from Sears, but you can find them on ebay for under $30 including shipping.

I replaced my "entire" ice cube maker (tube, hoses, water pump, ice maker) and it still pooled water at the bottom. I removed the back panel in the freezer and noticed the ciols go through a defrost cycle and water forms in tray under coils. I removed the lower panel on rear of fridge -and found a drain hose near the water solenoid/pump. I blew compressed air into the hose and hopefully unblocked it so it can drain into the pan not the freezer.
