Not usually as long as it is the type with the condenser underneath and has a fan. The type with the condenser up the back with no fan need to be ventilated on the top with at least 6 inches clearance for air to flow freely.

My sub zero refridgerator (freezer on bottom fridge on top) is cold on the bottom of fridge and warm on the top of the fridge. Any idea what is causing this. Items are also damp in fridge. We just vacumed...

the evaporator coil inside the freezer compartment is iced over and can't transfer cold air in thes condition, remove panel inside freezer on back side of freezer compartment and thaw it out with a hair dryer, then check the defrost heating element for continuity,if its open replace it,if its good, ,check the defrost control that powers the defrost heater

I purchased a bottom freezer Amana refrigerator when we built our house in 1999. The produce in the vegetable drawer keeps freezing! Everything else in the fridge is fine. Why does this happen?

Usually on bottom freezer fridges, there are two vents at the bottom of the freezer compartment where the cold air goes back into the freezer (cold air enters the fridge through the vent at the top/back of the fridge.)

If the vents at the back of the fridge are covered, the cold air will settle to the bottom of the fridge after it enters, and freeze your vegetables. The problem could be caused by ice build up in the evaporator coil of the freezer section also, but this will probably warrant a checkup from a pro.

One thing that can cause ice to build up inside those vents is moist air seeping in through a faulty door gasket. A thin coat of ordinary Vaseline on the gasket surface can help it make a better seal.

Freezer working fridge not working

Hi: When this happens it means that there is frost built up in the back of the refrigerator. You are having an issue with the defrost heater or the defrost timer. There is an off chance the refrigerator's freezer is over packed with food and there is no circulation. If you're handy empty the fridge and take a hair dryer to the back wall to melt away the frost from behind. You will have to remove the back metal wall. Look at the heater. It will be at the bottom of the freezer behind the back wall. A glass tube with a wire coil running through it. If the coil is broken, replace it. If not you will be looking at a defrost timer. Usually on a circuit board and expensive. Good Luck, Jeff

My side by side Maytag fridge

There shoud never be ice built up in the bottom. The problem is thatthe defrost drain water is not getting to teh pan underneath. If it were coming from the icemaker you would have a colum of ice from the icemaker area down the back wall... like a stalagtite. It still sounds like you just need to clean the tube that goies from the inside bottom of the freezer to the drain pan with a turkey baster and hot water

Kenmore fridge and freezer not cooling

Check to see if there is any ice built up on the back wall of the freezer. If so thaw the ice and take the back wall out of the freezer. next check to see if the fan is running in the freezer (evaporator fan) This fan is what circulates the air from the freezer to the fridge. If it does run then you have a defrost problem (if ice is on the coils and back wall). Then replace defrost timer, heater, and thermostat.

Ice is building up on the back wall of fridge

Option 1 defrost fridge manually by switching off power for 24 hours, allowing built up ice & frost to melt.
Option 2 Switch off mains power and using a hair drier blow hot air into the freezer supply vents. This shuold shift the ice in a couple of hours
