Hi i have a problem with a DFX 9000. When either the fron or back tractors rotate to park the paper i get a loud shuddering noise like gears missing although it cant be as the gears would make the noise when winding forward.Possibly a motor or clutch problem.when watching it reverse the paper the paper guide above the print head chatters back and forward causing the noise. Does any one know what the cause could be , the soloution and the part number if i require a part.or where i could get a copy of a parts manual

You have gears on the left side of the printer that drive the tractor assembly, they may be worn or loose and not messhing as they should to drive form feed. Remove left side cover to check gears.
When you said line feed do you mean the Top of form?
hope this helps
1. Make sure the printer is turned on and the desired tractor is selected (the corresponding tractor arrow should be lit). 2. Open the upper cover. 3. Press the Top of Form button to enter top-of-form mode. The printer beeps once, and the Top of Form light turns on. 4. Use the Micro Feed buttons to feed the paper to the desired top-of-form position. The “A” on the ribbon protector shows you where the bottom edge of your first line of text will print. This position is based on the first printable line of text. If your software inserts a top margin of five lines, your text will actually print five lines below the top-of-form position. 5. Press the Top of Form button again to exit and save your new top-of-form position. Then close the top cover.
Hope this solves your problem. I understand that you are having problem only on the reversei side tractor feed problem. We have encountered same problem even in different models and brands. Please check the Lever Paper Fed Selector is engaged well, so that the gears give less space clearance to each other. Please check the tractor tray is locked tightly both ends. Please check if the grease on the paper tray and contacting gears are not dried up. Please check also the paper path if there are remains or clogged parts of paper perforation holes. Finally check the flatten (stainless still or hard plastic) paper against the roller if not to tight. You can check manually by turning the paper roller knobs back and forth. But take NOTE: Turn Off the power in doing so, it may destroy the knob. Have a nice day.
