Ballast problem on PT-40LC12

I have a 2002 model PT-40LC12 Panasonic projection LCD set. The other night, I stopped getting a picture, I thought the lamp was burned out, but then the next night it came back on, although the picture was dimmer. Then last night, again, nothing. I've already gone through one lamp, the first one lasted about 3.5 years. But I don't think it's the lamp.

I talked with Panasonic tech support and the person said my Ballast control is probably shot or going. He indicated that the first gen HDTV sets only last about 5 years anyways and suggested I replace it. I'm not going to do that just yet- If it is the Ballast control, can it be fixed? Is it worth it?

Hi. I've just encountered the same problem, but I just replaced a new lamp a couple months ago and then whamo...my ballast went. Hate to part with such an $$$ tv (at the time). Wish we could at least sell the good parts or something... KILLS ME!!!

Same exact thing here - I tried the ballast repair kit with no joy. Even tested the components as they came off and went on - they all tested out the same.

Good news is that the kit provided parts all are correct for the PT40LC12 - the bad part is that the problem still exists. I wonder - the black box on the igh voltage lamp leads - is it a relay, and could the contacts burn out over time?

Panasonic makes a Ballast Repair Kit LSUC0022 for the PT-50LC13 for around $20, to correct the same problem with that model.

I wonder if Panasonic has a Ballast Repair kit for the PT-40LC12, or if the LSUC0022 would work with the PT-40LC12?

Anyone know?

Okay, so my Panasonic PT-43LC14 went black in mid show last night. The bulb is approximately 18 months old. The LED indicators upon Power On are; Power LED blinks green for approximately 70 seconds; Then...

Check the bulb again and look at the root of where the main stem comes out inside and be sure you don't see any bubble like appearence around the stem at the bottom there. If you do see this then the bulb is bad. Otherwise try this: Hold volume down on front of unit and pip on remote for about 5 seconds. Message will come on screen that timer has been reset to zero. This sets the lamp timer to 0

Hi,

The most common cause of Panasonic Rear Projection LCD TVs not starting is bulb failure. The PT-60LC13 users manual gives some help in translating the LEDs on the front of the TV.

If the TV worked normally for a period of time (months or years) and won't start, the most likely cause is bulb failure. There is no way to measure the bulb, sometimes the bulb is visibly damaged when it fails. Remove the Lamp Assembly and look at the bulb.

If there was an On-Screen Lamp Replace warning and TV won't start, bulb has failed.

The first step with all Panasonic Rear Projection TV "No Picture" problems is bulb replacement. If that does not remedy the problem, get a technician, there are no user serviceable parts. Guessing if the ballast, power supply, controller board or optical engine is faulty is not practical.

The Panasonic Lamp Gallery shows all Panasonic models and Lamp Numbers. There is also a link to Panasonic DIY bulb and lamp replacement.

You probably need a new ballast. It is a high failure part.If you listen at the back of the set you can hear the ballast make a short buzzing noise every time it tries to light the lamp.If you don't hear this then your ballast is probably bad.

Need to replace bulb in lcd panasonic

After lamp replacement, make sure that lamp cover is properly fixed on its location and if TV still does not turn On then it is ballast power supply issue, qualified TV tech will fix it.
If you think you can repair ballast supply and have enough knowledge about TV repair, let me know to provide you technical info about that.

Reset Time Problem on Panasonic TV (PT-50LC13)

Power on the set, listen for afaint buzzing sound as the set tries to fire up. If you do not here it then your lamp driver, or ballast is most likely faulty. Also make sure you have the door and all covers back in place and secure. And make sure you insatlled an orginal panasonic lamp because some generic will not work.

It could be the ballast that is bad. A bad ballast also shortens the Lamp life .
