Question about Sony Grand WEGA KF50WE610 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Sony Grand Wega KDF-E050A10

I have an approx 16 month old Sony Grand Wega KDF-E50A10.  We are seeing a horizontal ban of blue vertical stripes, approx 6 inches tall, along the bottom third of the screen.  They are evenly spaced, and look like this "IIIIIIIII".  They are there with and without cable and with a dvd in.  I have tried turning the tv off, no change.  Help!

The TV is a Sony Grand Wega KDF-E50A10 Lines are on screen with no connected input.

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to take it to the shop next week. I have stayed away from Sony tube TV for years. Their pictures were always great at first but would never last the test of time compared to Zenith or JVC. I thought their projection TV's would be better. I am not an unreasonable person but this is a $1500-$2000 TV that should last much longer than 2 years.

This will definately change my mind about future HD tv purchases.

Just got the TV back from the shop. It was the A1167541A B-Block assembly. I am about $600 lighter and very upset with Sony for not standing behind their products. I called customer care and talked to several people. I asked them to cover all or at least part of the 345.36 malfunctioning part that only lasted 2 years. There answer was NO. Today, Sony lost a customer that has purchased several of their products. No more, no kidding. I would suggest not purchasing this or any other projection TV from Sony. The clearly do not stand behind their product.

Have the same problem. Just got off the phone with Sony. They were only willing to pay $357.85 of an $826.35 bill to replace the B Block. I am really considering filing a class action lawsuit against Sony regarding this. They know about this defect along with the problems with the optical block yet are not willing to stand behind their product.

Where did you find the part for $300 bucks? I'm interested so I can fix this tv. I'm very upset with Sony. I will never purchase a Sony again.

Authorized sony repair center told me the problem was the Q Box. Ever heard of this? Part runs about 300 bucks. TV is out of warrenty as it is 2 years old. Do you think it is worth it to fight sony and get them to replace the part or just fix the TV?

Part Number is A1167541A, service rep called it a Q Box in the diag, however the web says its the b block assmy.

read this if you think it's the same problem

This seems to be common problem with Sony projection tv. I have the KDF-E50A10 that lasted only 2 years. It's sitting in a corner now until I figure out what to do with it. I am not going to spend another grand to repair it!! Never Sony again.

This is an optical engine problem - it needs to be replaced - it will only get worse. Sony has had problems with the optical block and is extending the warranty for this problem. (this is a LCD projection tv - there is no convergence)
