Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refrigerator model 795.77573600

Inside refrigerator compartment lights do not go out when doors are closed. the result was a melted cover, warm food, and potential fire. There are 2 door switches (one for each door) and they also operate other functions (disable ice/water dispenser when doors are open, the bottom freezer light works properly, etc.) all those functions continue to work so I don't think the switches would be the problem, especially both switches going bad at the same time. My question.. Is the light controlled by the main PC board that is behind the back cover of the frig instead of directly from the door switches???

Gee, I don't know if the light is on (door shut). I replaced my entire kitchen with sears Kenmore Elite. Stove, Convection micro, stove, dishwasher, and the same fridge you mention. Big bucks for me at least me. Any way the dishwasher sucks (high end model) the stove is a ***** to work the digital controls and the ice maker on the fridge don't work. You can get water if you have the right size glass and press the actuator just right and say some thing in Japanese and spin in a circle. I had a cheepo Whirlpool ice and water in the door that came with my house. I replaced it after 10 years, (never one problem) Ok I admit the stainless Elite looks cool, I just wish my house guests could get a glass of ice. What a bunch of ****. I guess I have to go back to my foam cooler. Country boy will survive, albeit riped off.. I'd like th shove the whole set right through they're Mall window on the back of a, Oh well you fill in the blanks. Solution: Come get it, or I'll lawyer up.

Lights won't go off. Lights are very hot and have burned the sockets. Could not remove the bulbs without burning finger or bursting bulbs with moist paper towel.

I guess I willI have to live with the darkness for now. I think Sears will come through. Right?

Opened the refrigerator doors last night - whew! burning plastic.  The lights were staying on, light cover had melted and was falling down, food on the top shelf was HOT - fortunately, found it before a fire occured - but it was close.

This same thing happened to us several weeks ago exactly as the previous post described. I discovered the lights still on just shy of something catching on fire. The entire clear cover over the lights was melting onto the mayonaise jar sitting underneath it and the bulb sockets were charred. We ended up buying four replacement parts from Sears Parts on-line effectively rebuilding the entire light unit and my husband replaced them. I thought it was a single occurance, but now I am afraid that it will happen again after seeing the report on Chanel 2 News tonight of all the other people this has happened to.

I have a Kenmore refrigerator and the light in the middle melted the cover and the indention from the light bulb is in the cover and the melted plastic is on the bulb. I just received my new cover today. I called and ordered it and inquired as to if this was a safety issue and of course no one wanted to go there and that department was not in and it is not under warranty etc. After hearing there was a report on TV I watched and seems I am not the only one. Now I am thinking I should leave the cover off or it will just melt again. The one that came today looks even thinner that the old one

Wow, it's amazing same fridge, same light problem.
Scary how close, perhaps, we were nearing a fire situation.
Will now pursue Sears to get problem fixed.

    Thanks for help everyone !

My Kenmore Elite (Model 795.7755 3600), less than two years old, had the same problem. One morning I opened the doors to a hot fridge and burning plastic. The light housing was sizzling hot - much of the unit literally melting away. Another hour or two and it could have been much worse.

Called the 1-800 number listed in the fridge. After about 45 minutes of patient talking, I learned that Sears (or Kenmore) have issued what they refer to as a "flash warranty) on the light fixture kit (Kit # 6871JB1423N) which in effect, for this part only, extends the factory warranty from one year to three years. I may even be able to have a factory tech install the parts. Hope it works out.

Bottom line: if you have this fridge, be very careful and monitor closely. An pursue the part warranty!

Hi. You have a LG refrigerator made for Sears. You will need to replace both light switches as well as the light assembly. They have a new light assembly with a thermal cutout. Make sure that is what you are getting. They are not sure why this happens but have made the addition to the light assembly due to a fire hazard. If the liner is damaged you may want to contact Sears or the manufacturer for possible warranty repair. The motherboard in the back is ok. Just another FYI, Keep an extra evaporator fan motor and motherboard on hand as these are common failures for this refrigerator. You will eventually need both of these parts. Good luck, Mack

There is a revised main board that has to be swapped out.The new main board is the only solution to this problem.

There is a service flash on this problem, SF46-515. Sears is going to repair my refrigerator and pick up the cost which would otherwise be about $500-$700 (P&L) depending how much of the repair they're willing to cover. Mother board is being replaced and possibly temperature control houseing, maybe lights?

Unfortunately noone seems to know about this. I only found out after many phone calls and by chance getting to Sears One Source. There a great person named Jim helped me and found out about the Service Flash.

Call service and give them the SF #. If no good call Sears One Source at 800 479-6351. Good luck.

SOURCE: Freezing food in Frig especially lower compartments

Kathleen, you'll have to provide an accurate model number from the inside of your fridge for us to pull up any tech data on it. Open the door and look toward the ceiling of the fridge. But, from what you describe, it sounds like a thermister problem not a thermostat problem. A thermister is a small, temperature sensitive device that communicates with the computer to tell it what temperature its' location is at any given moment. The computer then adjusts air flow dampers, defrost cycles and cooling times accordingly. There can be many thermisters in any given refrigerator model line. These are inexpensive to purchase and easy to replace, but sometimes difficult to locate. They are usually hidden behind a small plastic shell, that looks completely unobtrusive. But they are easy to recognize for they have 2 white wires going into them that are tightly bonded together. To find them, you'll have to gut the fridge (food, shelves and all) and look closely. Focus your attention toward the area of the problem, the lower shelves/crispers. You may need to pull the rear panel out to find it, but when you do replace it. (UNPLUG YOUR FRIDGE FIRST!) Hope this gives you something to go on. If not, provide your full model number so we can assist further.

check the damper controller at the center of the fridge. this regulates the air that is coming from the freezer dependent on the signal from the thermistor of the fridge compartment. that is the other thing to check. check it for rresistance and it should change as you change the temperature of the sensor.

i hope i was able to help;;

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite bottom freezer drawer won't shut

Has something fallen behind the drawer, and is preventing it from sliding back all the way? Remove the drawer by pulling it all the way out and lift it up and out. Look for anything that has fallen back there.

I have the bottom freezer w/2 doors up top....light inside will not go off and has started to melt some of the plastic pieces. How do you remove the light bulbs so the darn thing doesn't burn...

There should be a light switch inside each compartment, depress them with the door open one at a time, locate the bad switch and disconnect it. You can remove the bulbs too. Most of the problems with bottom freezer are the door, they seem to not get closed properly and they get heavily frosted, once frosted they seem not to close correctly and cause the lights to remain on.
I would look for the problem with the door closing or the door switch failing.

. Using a good light , flashlight , etc. check your refrigerator and freezer door seals . This is the gasket that seals the door shut when closed . Look for cracks, tears, and possibly bumps in the gasket material. If you notice any of these , replace the door seal gasket . Furthermore , it is always best to replace both door gaskets at same time .

I have a Kenmore Elite refrigerator model number 59673503201 and there is a terrible fish smell coming from the bottom portion of the appliance where the freezer is. It is not coming from trash, or food...

Please note when you keep fish in freezer once, the smell will be longer even you remove it. O.K. Now solution for your problem- Please unplug power.Keep fridge door open. Take wet cloth dipped in soap water and clean all compartment including freezer . Keep freezer door also opened. Then clean with dry cloth. Spray room spray in your room not into the fridge. And allow 5 hrs to circulate fresh air to pass thr' your fridge and then close fridge and freezer doors. Plug fridge and run for one hour on empty. After one hour store items in fridge and/or freezer.
Keep all food items in closed style which will avoid odor spreading and also be a hygienic. Thanks.
