Question about Hoover Refrigerators

Hoover Contour Refrigerator - not holding temperature

Hello. I have a Hoover Contour refrigerator/freezer (around 360L). Approx. 12yrs since purchase. I have noticed food in the freezer is not freezing, eg. softened ice cream, and food that was already in the freezer has thawed out. The compartment is still cool. I have adjusted the internal thermostat to the coldest setting but this has not altered performance. The fan also appears to be continually running.

Does it sound as though this problem can be easily rectified?

Thanks

Dino

Possibly a re-gass after repair may solve the issue.

SOURCE: Kenmore refrigerator freezer not freezing

The problem is in the defrost system.. You have a defrost heater in your freezer that comes on 3 times a day & melts the frost to keep your freezer frost free. That frost turns to water & runs down a drain & eventually goes to a drain pan located under the unit. On these models the hole for the drain is located directly under the evaparator fan. The drain hole is to far from the heater so the water settles & then freezes around the fan blades causing it to stop spinning. Its that fans job to circulate cold air from the freezer to the fridge, so now all the cold air is staying in your freezer. Last I knew they were workin on a solution to this but you need to contact the manufacturer. A temporary fix would be to unplug & then defrost the freezer by taking out the freezer panel & melting all the ice. Boiling water is effective. When you get the ice gone from around the fan you should be able to see the drain hole & be sure water runs freely down the hole. Put it back together then adjust the front legs of the fridge so the whole unit slopes back slightly causing the water to run back to that drain hole without settling.

Freezer digital temperature does not default back to 0. It slowly goes back up to 29.

Hello Terry, thanks for your inquiry!
From the information you have provided the temperature is not holding at 0°F inside of your Frigidaire refrigerator. Is your freezer currently cold? Does anything display on the front of the refrigerator? You may need to perform a reset on your refrigerator and you can do that by disconnecting the power cord for at least ten minutes. If this does not help resolve your issue I would recommend seeking help from a professional technician for proper diagnosis. This will help you avoid any unnecessary part purchases. -Matt

We have a Hoover No frost refrigerator/freezer. There is no control for the fridge temperature which is now running very cold (it freezes drinks, etc.). What can I do to increase the temperature of the...

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

You may have an issue with the temperature control assembly. Check the temperature settings (ideally at "one-half way" for both fresh food and freezer compartments).

Contact an appliance service company.

Hi,

Refrigerators and Freezer combination units have one common compressor and coolant for both units. If the refrigerator section is not getting cold I would check the following.
The cold zone is not blocked by a bag or box? The cold zone would be the coldest part of the refrigerator which vents the cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator.
Is the fan working on the refrigerator to vent the cold air to the refrigerator? You should be able to hear it when you hold the door switch.
The thermostat is not working which I have found most common is the thermistor is not registering the correct temperature causing the fan not to turn on.

Hoover frost free fridge is freezing every thing in fridge department

Sounds like a defective refrigerator control. Refrigerator temperature is what turns the whole system on and off. First check the settings. a starting point is midway on the scale for both the refrigerator and freezer controls. If you already have the refrigerator temperature set at its minimum setting then it is that control which is causing the problem.
