You probably have one of the following problems:

  1. Your keyboard has a short in it. Causing delay from pressing key to your screen
  2. Your CPU is high, this happens alot of times on my friends computer. He uses his computer for everything, but when he types his paper he gets confused after awhile because he thinks he's not typed anything. But after a second it catches up.
As for solutions, get a new keyboard or use a friends, if it's still happening, it's your computer. And for that, I'd get a disk defragmenter, then get CCleaner, also, unistall programs that you don't use anymore. Use these programs, see if this changes things.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Hold down the shift button for a few seconds to disable sticky keys. This is a windows feature to help people with disabilities and is activated and disabled by holding the shift button down for a few seconds. You can also disable it under start menu/programs/accessories/accessibility

My acer 6516 laptop keyboard is locked, and I cannot get it to unlock.

Holding down shift key for more than 8 seconds will lock the keyboard and it will stop responding. But if you keep pressing keys for few seconds you would be able to type in but it will be very slow.
Plus, it will produce a nasty sound.

To get around this, go to start and then settings, then control panel and then finally accessibility options. Make sure all the 3 boxes are unchecked.

Keyboard beeps when any key is pressed

The reason these beeps are happening is because there might be a key that is slightly depressed enough to where its registering keystrokes. Move your fingers all over the keyboard and see if you the beeps stop after you do that. If it still is going on then that means your keyboard is bad and will need to be replaced.

How do I use lower case letters in a text?

If your Tracfone has an uparrow on the zero (0) key, after entering a character, IMMEDIATELY hit the 0 key.  The phone will change the case of the previously entered character AND change case for subsequent entries.
If you're too slow typing the 0 key, you'll get the characters assigned (0, +, etc.) to that key.

There is a delay when pressing the keys on my thinkpad T42

you haven't mentioned how other programs behave. i would suggest it is spyware slowing your computer down or one program that is using up to my cpu usage. hitting control-alt-delete will bring up your task manager... at the bottom it shows cpu and memory usage as a percent.... what are the amounts ?

I have to hold down keys for 2-3 seconds to type. How to correct?

It might be due to a service called "ATI Hotkey Poller" running
which is intermittently slowing the keyboard typing down.

To disable it in Windows XP Home:-
Go to Start->>Run->>type "msconfig"->> click the "Services" tab->> uncheck Ati Hotkey Poller->> Then Ok, then Restart computer.

hope this helps
