Remote problems (by 2 users)

My daughter has the EWF2704 connected to a Direct TV HD DVR. She is trying to program the Direct TV remote to control this set. She can get the channel up or down to work but would like the sound and on and off to work also. We tried every remote code that Direct TV gave us and still nothing works. We also tried the search by pushing the volume up or down and I did it until my fingers cramped
