I turned off my friends computer at the wall before it had shut down!

Now it won't turn on, there is a light on on the motherboard ( ABIT MGURU)
and when they press the power button it displays code 83. they have tried taking the battery out of the motherboard but this has not helped. any ideas?

thank you

    Are you sure it's not a "8.3" ?

From what I have read it, it seems as though it could be several issues.

Did you unplug from the wall by tripping over the cable? Many solutions suggest reseating the motherboard and heatsink. However if the computer was not bumped or jostled at all, it would seem to denote a bad Power Supply or motherboard damage.

You may try resetting the cmos, there are some pins on the motherboard, usually arund the battery, if you install a jumper on the ones labeled reset and turn the unit on it should clear the bios and you can switch back the jumper to reconfigure the computer. This is just a bios restore, it shouldn't cause any data loss.

How to fi a phillips 20fp shuts off in 2 scs.

Here's some tricks I would try...
1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or orange or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your monitor on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.
Good luck.

unfortunately that is the problem. sooner or later it will just not boot up. If you are capable and want to get in to it, you can change the capacitors. if not look for a board. try ebay or pricewatch. they may still have one that would fit your processor. =)

Sounds like it's going to die or its gone faulty,
Might need to replace it or take it to a computer store and have them check it out.
