I can turn on my ps3 but will turn off right after with a blinking red light? Can I fix this by myself?

Yes this sounds like the YLOD - caused when the GPU and the CPU overheat - you can send it in to fix but they will charge you for this. Or you can fix it yourself from home with a good repair guide.

This is known as the yellow light of death for the ps3(ironic i know because it blinks a red light). This is caused when the unit overheats causing the solder on the board to melt and bridge(connect). Once this happens it shorts out the board causing the error you have now. ok, that blinking red light is a power supply malfunction. you could swap the good power supply with another from the spare systems you have there or, you could send to Sony for complete repair. the do it yourself is risky but cheaper.

If your having this problem I know how to fix it but only for about 30-45 seconds.
Okay this is what you do.

1.If your ps3 is turned on press the red button , it should turn green then yellow ,beep and blink red.
now do this 3 times without turning it off.

2.Turn your ps3 off.

3.Turn it on while holding the eject button.

4.Now your ps3 should stay on ,(like I said for about 30-45 seconds).Also the fan should be on.But then after a while it turns back off.And that's as far as I got.


(It really works if you do it right)
