ddr2 has more pins and much longer than ddr...if your ram does not fit the memory slot in your motherboard...let say the memory slot in your motherboard is shorter than the ram, then it is a ddr memory...most of the motherboard are ddr compatible actually only few brands has the ddr2 slot...

    goodluck!

Can i use DDR2 SODIMM 800MHz PC6400 in my laptop even though the one in it now is a DDR SODIMM PC3200 CL3?

pc3200 is original ddr- ram but pc6400 specifies to ddr2. The ram is not compatible. And the key slots on your mainboard will prevent installation.

Can i use DDR2 RAM instead of DDR1

YES, if your motherboard accepts DDR Sdram, and DDR2 Sdram ram memory. If your motherboard has both types of ram memory slots.

BUT, you can ONLY use DDR Sdram, OR, DDR2 Sdram.

You Cannot use both types of ram memory in the motherboard, at the same time.
(BIOS will only recognize one type at a time)

NO, if your motherboard does not have ram slots for both DDR Sdram, and DDR2 Sdram ram memory.

Double Data Rate Sdram ram memory modules, have 184 gold plated contact pins on the bottom.
92 on Each side,

(You can click on the above photo to enlarge)

DDR2 Sdram ram memory modules have 240 contact pins.
120 on Each side.

DDR or DDR2

DDR 266 is DDR, not DDR 2 . The 266 is the frequency value in Mhz.

Try having the memory refunded or resell it on Ebay, so that you do not lose your money.

Here is supported memory, many older motherboards do not accept modules of over 512Mb each, ask to the seller:

Will a DDR Ram work with a DDR2 Video card?

The on board memory on the graphics card being DDR2 will NOT affect the system memory being DDR.

And the memory you want to add depends on the memory you have allready installed on your machine and what version of windows you are running.

Please post back with more info on this.

Hi giovanni2,
Sorry but you're board does not support DDR2 memory.
Only 2 x 184-pin DIMM sockets support two 2.5V DDR SDRAMs (DDR400/333/266). There are two PC Chips M871G.
One is M871G (V1.5) & the other is M871G (V3.1). Neither support DDR2 memory. DDR2 memory used DIMM slots with 240-pin. The memory slots on you're board uses 184-pin. The board will not function with 240-pin memory.
