Sony w850i - no option to send text message

I just got a replacement phone. The problem is, it will allow me to send a picture message or an email, but not a text... the option just isn't there. Even when i reply to a text, it uses the picture editor and sends a picture message.

Is it borked or am i being stupid?

Cheers

In the message settings menu, there is:

    1. Message alert
    2. Picture Message
    3. Push

    Hiya,

Thank for the quick response. I'm in th UK.

It's a replacement from the orange insurance folks. I believe they use refurbished phones, so it's possible the settings are screwed.

I'll go to an orange shop and ask them to sort it.

    Thanks for your time fella.

In your Menu/Messaging/Settings/Text Message/Service Centre make sure you have your Service provider's Message Centre number.
MMS are different settings.

The Message Centre number is some times on the SIM card. I don't know where you live, it could be different in your country. But you can enter it manually, whichever way it has to be the number your service provider give you including country code. It could also be different for a contract phone or a pay as you go.

SMS use different settings to MMS.

To set Message Centre number go to:

Messaging/Settings/Text message/Service centre. If there's a number there already it's stored on the SIM card.

If you don't have the full Menu on your phone, go back to the shop where you bought the phone and ask them to reset it.

I have Sony Ericsson W580i and I bought it from a friends sister. I have some questions. One is how do you turn your signature on in your text messaging?

The signature works differently ,type the message and in the advanced options use the add signature to insert your signature.By adding your signature message will be send as picture message ie mms message not as text message.

How do I email pictures taken

You should be able to send a text message with the picture attached to an email address.

to send a multimedia message/text message w. picture attached:
-find the actual picture you want to send on your phone and select it
-then hit your "menu" or "options" button, which should give you an option to send/share the picture
-select text message or multimedia message (MMS)
-in the "to" line for the text message, enter the email address you'd like to send it to
-hit "send"

Hope this helps!

I need to transfer images and music to my sony ericsson w580i without usb or bluetooth tonight

you can email the images and text the sound files to yourself you can send an email with an attachment with the mp3 to your phone. Once you open the email on your phone its just like opening the email on your computer. You save the file just as you would in any file you would like on your phone, you can reverse this by sending a text to an email address and attaching the picture or mp3. As long as you phone supports it.

You need to check with your telephone service provider and confirm if the "Message center Number" in the message sending profile option is correct?

This problem sometimes occur if the Message center Number has been changed or deleted by mistake.

Unable to send/rec pictures SE W850i

Hi,

I think the problem here is with your connection. I understand that you have the right settings from your operator...however you should check with them to see if your line is data enabled for MMS (this is how your pictures are sent....in an MMS message).

SONY ERICSSON K850I

As sms is text only, people will get text messages only. To convert the smiley-characters into smiley images, the receiver should have support for emoticons, or have a 3rd party program to translate the emoticons. As most phones consider SMS as text messages, they won't convert them to emoticons...

You could try sending a message to yourself, or someone else with a k850i...Just to try.

that means that you have a software problem on the phone....you need to have the phone's firmware reflash on the phone.....take it to a mobile service center and have it reflash there.
