I just got a replacement phone. The problem is, it will allow me to send a picture message or an email, but not a text... the option just isn't there. Even when i reply to a text, it uses the picture editor and sends a picture message.

You should be able to send a text message with the picture attached to an email address.
to send a multimedia message/text message w. picture attached: -find the actual picture you want to send on your phone and select it -then hit your "menu" or "options" button, which should give you an option to send/share the picture -select text message or multimedia message (MMS) -in the "to" line for the text message, enter the email address you'd like to send it to -hit "send"
you can email the images and text the sound files to yourself you can send an email with an attachment with the mp3 to your phone.
Once you open the email on your phone its just like opening the email
on your computer. You save the file just as you would in any file you
would like on your phone, you can reverse this by sending a text to an email address and attaching the picture or mp3. As long as you phone supports it.
I think the problem here is with your connection. I understand that you have the right settings from your operator...however you should check with them to see if your line is data enabled for MMS (this is how your pictures are sent....in an MMS message).
As sms is text only, people will get text messages only. To convert the smiley-characters into smiley images, the receiver should have support for emoticons, or have a 3rd party program to translate the emoticons. As most phones consider SMS as text messages, they won't convert them to emoticons...
You could try sending a message to yourself, or someone else with a k850i...Just to try.
