Lakewood oil-filled radiator heat wattage?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved from Microwave Ovens category!

It all depends how cold you are .Start with low, turn it up if still cold.

When you turn them on from cold you can hear about 5 minutes of snap, crackle, pop until the oil comes up to temperature. After that this unit throws out a good amount of heat on the 900 watt and 1500 watt settings.

The wattage selector switch on a Lakewood Model 750 got so hot that it melted the plastic. I still have the metal bridge. What do you suggest?

I would suggest getting rid of it, if it got that hot, the integrity of the metal is now in question. You dont know the reason why this happened and it could happen again. Some of the issues with these are due to poor engineering and manufacturing. IF you want to attempt to figure it out, you need to get a meter that reads resistance and check the heating element resistance and divide the voltage by that number to get the amperage, then you can look and see what the wire rating is for the ampacity and check to see if it is in specification.

Our Lakewood 5101 oil heater gets warm, but over the last few days, it is not getting hot like it used to. It seems like it has slowly been getting colder over the last week or so. I can feel the heat...

Appears you have a heating element issue. Many of these elements are segmented for temp control. If one part goes fubar the heater will work but not put out the heat it used to unless you replace the element with a new one that has no burnt out sections.

Lakewood space heater thermostat source

No I never had any luck and the parts likely 1/2 the cost or more of a new one at wal mart and the heat element would still be old too
