You should take it apart again.
And put it back together again.

Ignore the TV guy. He did not want to fix it.

    Not likely,

you must not seated a cable correctly.

    or got cable plugged backwards

the Cables striped side is pin 1 , and will match marked pin 1 on the board.

A laptop guy will know how to fix it.

You will find that there are very few folks that actually work on lcd
panels, and fixing one remotely through this forum is very unlikely.

I am one of the few real electronic techs even in my city (Austin)

I fix to the chip level,

Put an ad on craigslist.org to see if anyone in your area has the tools and knowledge to look at your panel.

As for a service manual most electronic makers don't issue them except inhouse and to service centers.

As you have done your best to fix it , it's time to see about a
professional in the lcd panels. (thats not a tv repair guy usually)

I am trying to connect my laptop to my thomson wysius plasma through the tuner box,i get an error message NON supported format,i have changed the resulution to 800 by 600 but still no joy,any help would be...

OK,

The issue is with resolution and also with REFRESH RATE! Hence 60,75,100 HTZ try setting to defualts.

The TV is just trying to protect itself from harmful resolution or rfresh rates that could damage the TV itself. When in doubt set it to the lowest settings, and try it again.

Thanks and please do be considerate when your passing trew fixya to leave postive feedback and ratings for the experts that tried to help you today.

A black line running verticall down the middle of

There is no invertor board on a plasma tv. The fault is the X address buffer board. This is located on the bottom of the screen and runs horizontally the whole width of the screen. If you remove the heatsink plate that covers the x address boards and you need to look at the screen ribbon at the same position as where the bar is (in the middle).Vary gently lift the Xbuffer ribbon lock and gently take out the ribbon.Clean the contacts very carefully with a fibre pen or an electrical cleaning fluid.Insert ribbon back and heatsink and check. Here is a picture of the board and ribbon

a 1 inch bar is associates with 1 ribbon fault. So if the bar was 3 inches in from the left of the screen, the faulty ribbon will be 3 inches in from the right working from behind the TV. If cleaning dont cure the fault, then the Buffer IC will be blown and order a new centre buffer board (you can buy off Ebay)

1 Answer

Is it hd

Strictly speaking to be HD Ready a TV must fullfill 2 things:

1. Have a Screen Resolution of at least 1024 x 768.
2. Have at least 1 HDMI Socket.

Your TV has neither of these, so it is NOT HD Ready, however, it will still be more than capable of showing SKY HD, and it will still look very nice indeed.

I would need a list of the connections on the rear of the TV to tell you which cable to buy, but:

If it has DVI, then a simple HDMI to DVI cable will do for the video.

If it has component, i.e Yb, Yr etc then you will need a more expensive HDMI - Component Video cable.

But otherwise, yes, SKY HD will work fine.

I hope this helps.

My thomson wysius plasma tv comes on but the picture fflashes on and off ive connected pc to screen and is ok,so is it something to do with tuner box.?

You can also try to use the audio and video inputs to narrow the failure down to the tuner.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
