Question about GoVideo Go Video DVD/VCR Combo

Inoperable DVD Deck

My GoVideo DVR4000 will not open the DVD deck when commanded to do so. The screen says "open", but nothing happens. Any suggestions? Local repair shop says they are not allowed to work on it. Only the manufacturer can do so.

    For Pauldonp

Sorry I am slow getting to this. However, when I take the case off, I find that the DVD deck DOES NOT HAVE A FLAP THAT OPENS. Apparently the whole deck just slides out. (The VCR window has a flap, but that is not the problem.)

I also took the front snap panel off so I can fully see the deck. I pulled and tugged on it, but there was no movement. I plugged in the cord and carefully turned on the power button, switched to DVD (it always defaults to VCR when turned on) and then pressed the "open" button. Still no movement and no sound like it is trying to move or anything.

    Any other suggestions?

    For coolguy008,

Your suggestion did not help at all. When I unplug the player, puss the "open/close" button and plug it back in, nothing happens. In fact, there is no power to the machine until I separately push the "power" button. Holding it down at the same time I plug in the unit, does not work. The button must be release and then re-pressed to turn it on.

    Any other suggestions?

Hi the problem you are having is going to be with the flap that opens when the tray slides out usuall they come off the runner or even the spring breaks holding the flap what you need to do is remove the case by undoing the screws along either side and also be a couple at the back when you have done this you can remove the case it will either lift up or slide forwards on doing this you will see where the flap is it will be on the caseing so have a look and see whats broken or come off this is the most common that something fell off.
Now you can either try repairing the flap mechanism or remove the flap completely this will allow the tray to come out this is an easy job and shouldnt take to lng.
If you ask repair shop they should be able to get you new part and they are easy to fit or just leave the flap off all together its upto you ok.
Let me know if you need further assistance or if i can help you anymore just ask ok

Hi if you can even here the tray motor trying to work then the chances are the motor has gone unless when you press the eject does it tell you that its ejecting or not if like in your first post you said that when you press eject you get the close open message then you know the button itself is working.
So then that narrows the problem down to the tray itself or the tray mechanism as you dont here any clicking or ticking sound that the tray is trying to open then this means that the dvd tray motor is either not working or is not getting any power to the motor.
When you press eject have you tried pulling the tray open whilst pressing eject because if something is jamming it then this might free whatever it is up.
If after doing this it still dont open then you need to look at either the motor itself can you here this making a noise or not if not then its motor problem or power problem ie not getting power to motor.
If the tray was jammed you would still here the motor that is unless the tray jamming has burnt the motor out.
These will need testing to do this you will need a multimeter and the schematics as the schematics will give you any part numbers you need.
But the problem you might have is as the repair shop said they wouldnt touch it then this usually means that they cant get the parts you could try looking online for the schamtics use a search engine and type in
schematics for then give make and model
if their is one online then it should give you a list of part numbers after finding part numbers see if the motor is listed it should be but might take a while to find on the schematics then get the part number and cross referance it online and see if their is an alternative part.
If you have any problems ill look online for you but i cant do it till tomorrow ok so just let me know how you get on ok

The control is under setup, it probably says auto.

DVD::Setup::<find caption>::<set to off>.

bewteen the double colons <::>; you have to press a button on the remote. between pointy brackets [<>], is an action you need to take.

I think that you have tried to use the subtitle button, it should say what the setting is & you usually have the ability to <cursor> [up/down for language; left/right for on/off]

Mom was hitting buttons and now DVD plays Blue and White!

I think your mom changed the DVD output setting. Using the remote, go to the Setup Menu, then select DVD Setup. Scroll down to the Alt Video Out option. It will either be set to "Component", S-Video, or "Off". It needs to be set to the type output you are using to go from your Go Video deck to your TV. If you are using an S-Video cable, then set it to "S-Video", if using Component cables (Red, Blue, and Green cables), then set to "Component". Otherwise it should be set to "Off".

Hope this helps.
