Did this suddenly start to occur? Were they working before? If so, it is very simple - shut down computer, remove the battery and unplug any power source, wait a couple of minutes and reassemble and power up. Wala! I read all kinds of complicated instructions, started with the simple, and problem solved.

Hold the windows key on your keyboard and press Pause/Break key, which brings up system properties. Move to Hardware tab. Open up Hardware Devices. Look for yellow exclamation marks next to USB hub devices, right click on them (if any) and remove. then press F5 to refresh and should automatically reinstall the driver for you. Then after that run a Windows update.

My other half of the solution is if you simply can't get the USB drivers to work. Check out Ubuntu. Read more at that link to find out what is Ubuntu. It's much more user-friendly and there is little to no learning curve coming from windows XP. I have my children (ages 6,7,9,13) all using Ubuntu, which is a form of the GNU/Linux Operating System. What's great about it is it's completely free, and open-source so there are less problems with the OS compared to Windows which is proprietary software and all applications in Windows are only made to make money off the consumer. Check out the web page, read about it, download it, burn it to a CD-R and reboot. Installation is straight-forward. You can either install on a seperate partition and choose which OS you want to run at boot, or you can format the entire drive and just automatically run Ubuntu at boot. I think you'll like this solution much better, give it a shot if not permanently, just temporarily you can run from the disc you make, or install on a seperate partition. If you decide you like it, format the whole drive and just run Ubuntu straight up with no Windows.

Another great thing about Ubuntu is it's able to read Linux files, and able to open Windows files as well, such as word documents and such. It comes with it's own free word processor and spreadsheet applications called OpenOffice.Org

Usb port door broken

You can pick up small springs at any hardware store if you have a small computer shop nearby they will most likely have a few old cases they could pull some off and I doubt they would charge but if they did it shouldn't be more than a couple cents.

I have a second generation ipod touch and when I push the button all I see is a usb cable, an arrow, and an itunes symbol. When I connect to the computer that my itunes account is set up on nothing...

Go to iTunes, and then plug in your daughter's iPod. Then simply follow the on-screen instructions. And no, your daughter did not get a virus on her iPod.

My ipod shuffle 2nd generation won't turn on and I don't know if the charger even works. My computer won't read my ipod shuffle or notice it.

If this doesn't fix it, and it's over a year old, and you don't have an AppleCare Protection Plan... Recycle it, because man, it's gone.
BTW: The unit charges off of a standard USB port. Double check the connection and USB cable for defects and try another computer and USB cable.

Does not charge

Well, it sounds as though your battery is shot. However, before completely giving up i would restore the ipod in itunes and then let it fully charge. After it says "fully" charged, disconnect and test. if it still has no charge, reset it by holding down both the menu and center buttons until you see an apple appear on the screen. If after these steps it still does not charge i would check into getting a new battery either through iPodbatterydepot.com or by calling apple tech support at 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) Good luck

Ipod wont charge :(

Because if you charge the battery too often you might be getting something which is called a "fat battery" which if what happens as well if you charge a cell phone too often, it could also be that the cable that plugs into your computer to charge it could be dusty inside...

Usb connection for ipod

Do other devices work in the same USB ports? Does the iPod show up on a different computer? Have you tried different cables? Does it still charge?

Try that first. If not, you can do a reset by holding the top of the click wheel and the centre button. You can also try resetting it in menu.

Beyond that it sounds like warranty time.

Battery problem

I imagine you're charging via your computer's usb port. If the usb port is not USB2, occasionally you may need to plug it directly to the wall, so that its getting pure clean electricity. If you are charging it via your computer, and it is a laptop, make sure your computer is plugged in as well. if the ipod is less than a year old, it may still be covered by the Apple care warranty. Go to

http://www.apple.com/support/

and enter the ipods serial number ( on the rear at the bottom ) and take advantage of the warranty if you feel it is not performing correctly.

Hope this helps.
